Two things

Obama has two things going for him. He voted against the Iraq war and he was not implicated in either the Clinton Administration or the Bush administration. Personally, I have always like Gore best, and I wish he had been allowed by the putrid right wing to actually take his White House seat. But more and more I see the Bush administration as continuous with the Clinton administration in several contradictory but important ways. It's no coincidence that Hillary does not take attacking Iran off the table, nor that she voted for the war. It doesn't matter now how she changes her tune, she represents HOW the Clinton administration led to the Bush administration--by having no ideologically liberal principles. Gore is entangled in the same problem. Better try someone new who at least says the right thing. This said, go on Salon and bash him. These are very very minuscule bashes compared to the Rove effect. Break him in easy, but break him in!

more disturbing

What Hillary said to AIPAC last week, I believe, was much more disturbing than her Iraq vote, which I don't forgive her for, but which I MAY forget. The gist of her AIPAC speech was that she, too, would attack Iran, if it were "warranted". That means that attacking Iran is a possibility. I don't want anyone in the White House who would be prepared in any way to attack Iran. Of course, Bush is likely to attack Iran before Hillary gets the chance to be prez, but she has to fully and legitimately oppose such an attack, and she doesn't. So, she is out as far as I am concerned. And anyway, I haven't met a middle-aged Democratic woman who would vote for her. She is a losing candidate, and she needs to know that. And another thing---as someone early on said, why in the wolrd would be have another one who can't admit a mistake in the WH? I agree--no more Bushes and no more Clintons, not even Bill. A Gore! That's what we need.

Original article: Israel's surge of despair

Just a cover

EVERYTHING the Bush administration has said about their goals in the Middle East has been just a cover for stealing the oil. The Israelis are now learning what Tony Blair learned long ago but hasn't assimilated--Bush doesn't do quid pro quo, and he pays back no favors. He cannot be influenced to do anything that he hasn't thought of himself. I agree with the article--Israel will be in deep doodoo when the Bush years are over. Bush destroys everything he touches, just like magic.

Mayo

Got to reiterate that mayo warning--I know someone who left his on the window sill and got salmonella poisoning.

Original article: He spanks in anger

Let's call it a beating

and be honest about it. Beating children and animals does not work as a training method. It frightens the victim so that he or it cannot learn the lesson being taught. It causes a rupture in the relationships with the spanking parent and puts all relationships at risk. It promotes anger and violence in the victim. An occasonal whack is at best neutral, and should be avoided. Beatings of the sort LW describes are a form of abuse and even (gasp) domestic terrorism. LW should change the guardianship provision immediately and consult a psychologist about reporting the abuse.

Good

I was on a flight out of Toronto that was the last plane de-iced and out the door. It was very exciting, and we all felt as though we were fleeing, successfully. It was exhilarating. Of course, a couple of weeks later, I was on a flight out of LA, and the airlines people were fine except the bag checkers at the counter. They moved like zombies, and then got angry at me when I asked for help after standing at the machine for ten minutes, waiting for someone to simply pull the bag tag and affix it. Every time you decide that the airlines are doing their best, you are faced with indifference once agin.

All to the good

But not enough. I want them out forever, or at least until every living Republican is dead dead dead. Then they can get a new party.

Ben Dover

That's what I call whining and carping! Read your piece over and ask yourself if anyone would want to work for you. It's not what you express, but the sense of grievance with which you express it. Chip on your shoulder. Carrying a grudge. Winning through intimidation. Quod erat demonstrandum, Ben Dover.

Tell Me Something I don't know

I looked in vain for some new information in this article. Where has Mr. Cockburn been for the last four years? There was never any hope for any sort of victory in Iraq. Bush started a civil war out of greed, arrogance, and simple-minded agressiveness. "Success" will come when the oil contracts are signed. Only the most naive person would think that the info in this article is news.

Don't you think

She meant to make him uncomfortable and the audience, too? He makes people squirm all the time, and she got him. And she is seventy. And she looks great. I bet someone dared her to do it.
