  • No one cares about the results

That's the reason why the minor leagues won't work on tv. Sure, there's excitement over if some blue chip prospect is playing well, but that sort of curiosity only would be relevant in a few at bats. If there's no excitement over the game and there's only two or three players a fantasy player would be interested in playing, how many people would really watch this?

  • Getting only 40 MPG in a Prius is difficult

[Read the article: Who needs a Prius anyway?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

My worst tank ever was when I let my speed demon fiance drive on I-5 in California. She set the cruise control to 80 but had to slam on the brakes constantly for slow traffic and then speed back up. This was driving to absolutely minimize your mileage.

The Prius still got nearly 43 mpg on that tank.

My speed limit driving on my commute produces about a 51-52 mpg result for me. Find me another car that does that (and also strives to reduce emissions) that also has the reliability and cool toy (e.g. the smart key) factor of a Prius and I'll get that for my next car.

  • Uh-huh

"Now, for the Yankees, we're trading Melky Cabrera and Ian Kennedy for Johann Santana."

And the reason why the Twins make this trade is?

I know that Yankees fans like to think that the rest of the league is their farm system, but it's going to take more than a below average centerfielder and a mid grade pitching prospect to get Santana.

  • Re A-Rod's postseason stats

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"At what point do you have a big enough sample of A-Rod's post season accomplishments to say that it is statistically significant? Is he the "cooler" (as Texas teammates called him) or a choker or what?"

Look up the 2000 ALCS and the 2004 ALDS. Twice he put a team on his back in a post season series. He nearly singlehandedly moved the M's to the 2000 World Series and didn't exactly choke against the Twins.

90% of the time people who talk about chokers or clutch players are exhibiting selective memory.

"Either way, the point is that MN doesn't have the money the big clubs do and would be stupid to let Santana walk next year without getting anything back. The Yankee have a very deep farm system again and will be using it (and piles of cash that Cashman trips over in his office) to rebuild."

They wouldn't be getting nothing back. They'd be getting two draft picks, either one of which could be turned into something better than a centerfielder who maybe will become a league average hitter if everything breaks perfectly for him.

There are 28 other teams you know, and all of them would also like Santana pitching and could offer a better package than that. The Yankees might get him, but the trade isn't going to be a giveaway like that, especially not with the Twins about to move into a new stadium.

  • Bitter?

[Read the article: Paul Krugman criticizes Obama supporters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Other than a week in South Carolina, what has been bitter about this campaign? Read any conservative blog's archives from a few weeks ago and you'll see bitter. Providing the vote goes for one candidate or the other pretty clearly, I don't see much problem in unifying the party.

  • Clinton does better than she polls?

[Read the article: Clinton more electable than Obama, Mark Penn claims]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Well that explains why she lost LA, WA, ME, and NE with larger margins than any of the polls predicted. A better description of that point is that Clinton does better than the outlying polls, at which point the rest of us can say, "Duh."

  • Micki - you're confusing votes with delegates

[Read the article: Clinton more electable than Obama, Mark Penn claims]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

All those BANNER HEADLINES about his huge wins are an illusion -- yes, he garnered the most "votes" in certain caucus states, but in my state -- Washington -- fewer than 50,000 people participated in Saturday's caucus for BOTH PARTIES combined. THAT IS LESS THAN 1.3% of Washington State voters!

I assume that you're referring to the counts on websites that say Obama has 21,629 and Clinton has 9,992.

Those aren't the number of people who voted. Those are the number of state delegates awarded. I know my district caucus had about 90 votes for Obama, 6 of which are going to represent him. That's a 15-1 ratio.

I don't know if that's average or not, but those totals are not the number of voters.

  • Yes she should stay in but...

[Read the article: Most Dems want Clinton to keep running, conditionally]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...she should run a campaign about why people should vote for her. When she was talking about what she could bring to the White House, she was a wonderful candidate. Now that she's just attacking Obama non-stop, all she's achieving is bringing down his general election hopes without improving hers at all.

Fortunately, I don't think a kitchen sink attack continues to work if she wins today. The attention will be back on her, so she'll have to make her case instead of trying to promote second thoughts.

  • This is why I support the man

[Read the article: Obama's speech on race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The delivery wasn't the best - I might be the one Obama supporter who doesn't think he's always a good speaker - but the text, well the text is what I would have written if Obama asked me to. Will it work? Who knows these days? It sure has a good shot though.

Ultimately, the initial reactions on CNN and MSNBC show that he might benefit from the same thing that caused him to go down. The press get bored with a story and a reversal gives them something new and interesting to cover so they go with that. Wright could only have killed him if it built and built and built and built. Now it's going to - likely - defuse and we'll be talking about something else next week.

  • "I have a follow up"

[Read the article: "It is possible ... that she misspoke"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"What did you intend to say when you 'misspoke.' Please clarify your remarks now in such a way that they are truthful and could show how you accidentally told a long, detailed story that was not based on the facts. Twice."

[rant about the chances of swiftboating Obama followed by]

Of course, you could nominate Hillary . . .

The problem with that argument is that the result of a successful swiftboating of Obama would be that he would be about as unpopular as Clinton is now. Clinton already has been swiftboated and the damage is there. At least with Obama we have a chance.
