ST. PAUL, Minn. — John McCain’s campaign on Wednesday angrily called for an end to questions about its review of Sarah Palin’s background, deriding a “faux media scandal designed to destroy the first female Republican nominee” for vice president.

“This nonsense is over,” declared senior campaign adviser Steve Schmidt in a written statement.

The statement stood out for its admission that Palin is under siege _ it condemns “this vetting controversy” _ and for its attempt to blunt questions about how rigorously McCain and his campaign explored the background of a candidate who may get the nation’s second most powerful job. It also suggested that Palin is a victim of gender bias in the media.

“The McCain campaign will have no further comment about our long and thorough process,” Schmidt said, lashing out at “the old boys’ network” that he says runs media organizations… (HuffPo)

Seems to me that the overwhelming focus of Palin scrutiny, increasingly so, is the voluminous motherload of actual relevant political liabilities this woman has. The Goopers wanna make it "all about" the teen sex anlge. The only Bright Shiny Thing they got.

This woman has enough real political corruption liabilities to sink her and McSame.

EVERY time critics point to an allegation of official Palin wrongdoing, the Goopers will now be reduced to reflexively wailing "STOP ATTACKING HER DAUGHTER!!"

Just like McSame has to use "POW, POW, POW..." as a shield against any and all tough questions.

Try to imagine Democrats getting away with a stunt like that. Just TRY to imagine an Obama with a 17 yr old unmarried pregnant daughter alone. Then imagine the blood vessels in O’Rielly’s and Hannity’s and Limbaugh’s and Glenn Beck’s temples.

The whole thing is surreal.
