Bravo!!
I'm glad I just managed to stay up for your post. I want to second your request to Joan. As a matter of fact, you said pretty much what I would like to say if I could say it so eloquently and succinctly as you have. I seem to be heavy handed in my posts lately due to the over involvement and over-emotional nature of this campaign and all that it brings up for me and everyone else (I wonder where my sanity went).
But I too wish that there were some higher level of discourse here and I think that is only achieved by the editorial quality, interaction, and in my own opinion, insistance if you will at quality of replies.
And I really admired your:
"I hope that you may shift away from the kind of analysis as of late and that you might really look closely with those of us who get into the fuzzier places of discourse. Anyway.....when I get frustrated and can't really contact the "source" I get saracastic (as my last posts indicate). I know that sarcasm, especially in cyberspace, can read very darkly. It's not from me. The four year old in me that still does some magical thinking wants to ask you personally to always pretend you are writing to those of us who simply want to go deeper into the assumptions behind the conventional political/cultural presuppositions."
Especially the "fuzzier" areas of discourse. Wow! That would be great.
And opinion aside to Joan - I think you should have specific chat rooms. I mean REAL chat rooms for certain topics with rules against adhominim attacks and real discussion of real subjects. Maybe even ichat video rooms? Well, maybe not. Not sure I'm ready to see whom I'm arguing against just yet. Yikes!
Anyway, thanks so very much for suggestion to Joan, Carol Richards. It was great and I think it would be wonderful and I hope that Joan takes under serious, serious consideration.
EVEN FOR NOW,DON'T LET THIS BE YOUR LAST WORD!
I don't understand how people can justify the dehumanization of another person based on their gender or their race. EVER!
Have we learned nothing from our years of enduring Bush? Have we learned nothing, absolutely nothing from the years of racism that speak to all people, men AND women?
SEXISM is hate no more or less than racism! And it's right before everyone's eyes right here and right now.
And people will deny it, the same way that racism was denied, in order to rationalizing hating another person. Not justifiable criticism, but hating.
Having to call someone a racial or sexual slur does not make TRUTH any more evident. If you need to use a racial or sexual slur, than you don't have a truth to make evident. All you have is an excuse for your hate.
Just want to say "Bravo!" on your post on page 2. You nailed it! And you've been nailing it all along. Very surprising to see someone who writes with such clarity posting here
Maybe it's that bitter "cling-on effect? Get it? Cling. On.
It's funny the people here who go on and on and on and ON about how "unlikeable" Clinton is. It's laughable. If she's so unlikeable why is she still neck and neck with Obama? Apparently, to quote Obama, she's likeable...enough!
And I think THAT's what you all hate about her. That there are massive amounts of people who actually like her! Or love her! Who think she would make a absolutely great POTUS. And you all just can't stand that. And you go on and on about all her faults, etc., but the truth is, Clinton's not really THAT bad. At all. And you all know it. But you need an excuse to hate her, something to hang that hate on, so her being a woman becomes the crux, the focal point.
If it weren't so, this never have become an issue. The problem is you don't dare see the meaning of that. That her being a woman is what you have focused your hate on and what that says about sexism and misogyny and how it's used against women.
The problem is, that ALL women suffer for it.
Truly amazing! And article that actually says something sane about Clinton.
But oh, how the Obamabots are gonna scream!
On one hand I would like, no, I would love to praise Salon for actually having the guts not to fall to pressure of the "mob" (think Gladiator), but I fear this is just Obama troll bait. Just chum for the Obama sharks and not something that says anything truly and deeply substantial and objective about Clinton, which absolutely no MSM outlet has dared to do, including Salon, to date.
The fear of being excoriated by Obama supporters for being fearless enough to tell all sides as good journalism is ethically wont to do, and losing that market share is just too much of a stretch. And ethics, with the exception of Bill Moyer, walked out the door a long time ago in the media.
But I am waiting for the day, that someone dares to tell the truth. The real truth, not the gospel according to Obama and his minions.
