What bothers me is NOT the reasonableness of what Power's said OR the "details" on Obama's site. What bothers me is how Clinton has been highly criticized and basically eviserated by Obama supporters for her same "reasonableness".
What bothers me is the Obama supporters at the caucus I was at making (or actually SCREAMING) the point that the BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OBAMA AND CLINTON was that he was going to get us out of Iraq in 16 MONTHS!!! And that Clinton's reasonableness was decried as equivocation and lying on her part.
What bothers me is that Obama made this a HUGE point and a HUGE piece of his platform to get those voters to his side and said it was also a MAIN difference between him and Clinton! 16 MONTHS. When it actually turns out to be...bullshit!
I remember when Elizabeth Edwards said that she couldn't make her husband either a black man or a woman. Considering she said somewhat the same thing as Ferraro, I wonder why no one saw THAT as racist?
It's funny, a couple of years ago when everyone was worshiping George Bush we all said it was like the Emperor with No Clothes, people went along with the charade because they thought it necessary to support the President in a time of war. And no one dared called his bluff because they would be called out as an anti-patriot.
Now, we have a black man running for President where it is obvious that ONE (NOT ALL!) of the major reasons he is winning IS indeed because he is black. Everyone knows it. It's as plain as the nose on each our faces. Finally, someone has the guts to say the truth, to say this telling fact and say out loud exactly what the polling data facts say are so, and they're called a racist. What is worse, the candidate running doesn't have the guts to admit it's true. To admit what even HE KNOWS IS TRUE. And, further, not only does he lie about it but everyone else does.
Personally, I think one of the reasons Clinton has got this far is indeed because she IS a woman. And I don't think that's an insult. At least it's not a fucking lie.
What is truly tragic about this is that truth has taken a back seat to facts. It's been sacrificed to the god of hear no evil, see no evil, and speak no evil. The trouble with that what happens when the time comes that we need the truth? And last, HOW MANY MORE YEARS MUST WE ENDURE LIES that we pretend are truth to protect our image of ourselves as a country? HOW MANY MORE YEARS MUST WE ENDURE LIES?
Is admitting the reason Barack is winning being in part due to the fact that he is black such the tragic insult? Are we so fragile as a people, both black and white and every other color and creed, that we cannot handle the truth? Must everyone pretend and insist that everyone else also pretend?
And last, the problem here is not the Emperor with No Clothes, it's the people with no clothes and we don't have the guts, the fucking guts to admit what's true here, to discuss it like adults without becoming lost in our own lie!
There's some serious danger here, folks, that we can't admit or discuss the truth. If we can't see that, then we are on the way to being more fucked up then we've been in long, long time.
But how much does being black count for? If Barrack WERE white basically he would have been the twin brother of Edwards. People would have been, "ho hum". Being black made "the difference that is the difference."
This doesn't mean he doesn't have major other qualities that people admire. But it's the combination of those qualities with being black that means a lot to people.
I read Ferraro's full comments when she said this "racist slur". What no one admits to is that she actually compliments Barrack at some point. But that's basically ignored, isn't it? It's like god forbid ANYONE say something that's obvious. He's black and he's winning. That means a big deal to a lot of a lot of people. Wow, that's racist?
Actually, I'M NOT CLAIMING THAT Barrack is saying he is an Emperor with No Clothes on. I'm saying we the people are.
When we can't say what is true then what we are saying is a lie, no matter how many superlatives you want to paint it in.
Barrack is all you say he is BUT HE IS ALSO BLACK. All the rest would be so much water under the bridge if he were white in this campaign. He'd have been another Edwards.
Tell that it doesn't matter to you one whit that he's black? That THAT doesn't mean ANYTHING, NOT ANYTHING to you whatsoever?! That THAT is NOT in anyway important to you? That it has NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with your reasons for voting for him or for supporting him. Tell me that!
Regardless of the rest of the campaign,
I'll ask you the same thing that I asked deloresflower. Tell that Barrack being black has NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING to do with your vote or your support for him. Look deep within yourself and please do me the honor of answering that question honestly.
