"The rest of the Op-Ed betrays what appears to be a continuing lack of self-awareness (or, for that matter, a consideration for the perception of others) on Ferraro's part."
What a joke.
Considering that Alex and the majority of Obama supporters have what appears to be a continuing lack of self-awareness of their own blind spots when it comes to their own hate-filled bigotry and bottomless mendacity and no, zip, none, nada consideration for the perception of Clinton supporters or Clinton or Reagan Democrats, I would say this should get an award for the most hypocritical articles on Salon for the day.
Ferraro actually says something very important about what is going on for Clinton supporters, what is going for Reagan Democrats and she is accurate but you dismiss looking at it with any depth because of bias towards her based on what Ferraro said back in March.
And what she said back in March, while said indelicately is in true. And what's worse, is you all know it. If Obama were a white man, he'd have been left behind in the race long ago. It doesn't matter how intelligent or charming or how well his plans for a campaign were. He's too inexperienced and would have been laughed off long ago if he was white - one white politician among a slew of white politicians. But he's been heralded as the up and coming "black" candidate for years.
And for Obama supporters, he has become the black redeemer of white guilt. If THAT isn't about race, I don't know what is.
But Obama supporters are so entrenched in their pathological denial of it complete with blinders on to what is obvious to anyone else (not just Clinton supporters) in the country. But of course to tell the truth about that is racist.
Most importantly, Ferraro makes an incredibly important point about Reagan Democrats and you, Alex just pooh pooh with out a thought. And you do political analysis, Alex? I think you need to go back to school.
Florida is the haven of Reagan Democrats a mile deep in every direction and will be Florida that loses the election for Obama UNLESS his people get a clue and do something about making it apparent to them that he understands them and a BIG, BIG part of that will be negating the racism charge. That needs to include asking for a kabosh on really thoughtless crap from the media like this.
You know, Shawn, do you a link to the electoral map - I think I saw either at politico or tnr, but I'm not sure.
I really don't think these people have any clue as to how really bad the situation is. Seeing that map might help.
Thanks! And just for the hell of it, I'm going to tell you what my screen name means...to me.
It means that fantasy of heaven that is always around the corner that we all long for and is never what it seems when we get there. It means that sense of transcendency that is only in the moment like in a sunset that stuns you with it's beauty. It means also being fooled by fools gold that we all imbue with our dreams only to be disappointed they didn't live up to expectations... and finding out that just what we thought was mundane and ordinary is more really heaven than any dream but we were too immature to see it. All of that.
So, as a friend of mine says, what have we learned here? Never think you know everything or judge absolutely.
And now back to throwing vitriol at each other, eh?
That's a laugh.
What other poster? Perhaps you should read the screen names just...a...little....more carefully before you spout off.
Or maybe attention to detail is beyond you.
Maybe the real question here is WHY all of a sudden all of these Clinton supporters who had NO PROBLEM before voting for Obama, and are Democrats and have voted Democrat, most of them for all of their lives, NOW feel a little put off by it or are hesitating.
Hmmmmm....what could that be about? One has to wonder.
Maybe being called racist, or the hypocrisy of being told it's wrong to support a "vagina" for office just because of that fact (even thought 90% of black voters are doing so for a black man), maybe being called every vile name in the book, maybe Clinton having every word out of her mouth misconstrued to mean some vile thing thing she never meant, maybe all the lies that have perpetrated about everything she has ever said. Maybe because she is the first candidate to be called on to quit the race early even though she is winning in the polls for the majority of the swing states and is supported by pretty half of the Democratic electorate; Maybe the continued hate and bile that that is thrown at every Clinton supporter 24/7 by Obama supporters is having some effect?
...gee, maybe that all has something to do with it for those supporters? Do ya think?
