Some experienced Republican women - some v. well known and some not so - for your consideration:
Kay Bailey Hutchison
Christie Todd Whitman
Condoleeza Rice
Susan Collins
Elizabeth Dole
Olympia Snowe
M. Jodi Rell (Gov. of CT)
Jane Dee Hull (former gov. of AZ)
Sue Myrick (NC - Congresswoman)
Kay Granger (TX - Congressmwoman)
Heather Wilson (NM - Congresswoman)
This is such an insulting, pandering choice, if McCain felt that he needed to select a woman - why not one of these women - why not someone like Kay Bailey Hutchison, who is very well known and has lots of experience?? Again, this is incredibly insulting to women!!
If McCain felt the need to pick a woman, fine. If McCain felt the need to pick a conservative woman, fine. It McCain felt the need to pick a pro-life, pro-gun, pro-big oil, etc woman, fine. But why Sarah Palin??? There are so many experienced Republican women, below is just a brief list I put together from Wiki. I do not know if all these women would be acceptable to McCain from an ideological POV but I do know that they all sure have a heck of a lot more experience than Palin.
Governors or former Governors
Jane Dee Hull (Arizona)
M. Jodi Rell (Connecticut)
Linda Lingle (Hawaii)
Christie Todd Whitman (New Jersey)
Senators
Kay Bailey Hutchison (Texas)
Olympia Snowe (Maine)
Elizabeth Dole (North Carolina)
Susan Collins (Maine)
Lisa Murkowski (Alaska)
House of Representatives
Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Florida)
Sue Myrick (North Carolina)
Kay Granger (Texas)
Heather Wilson (New Mexico)
What about Carly Fiorina? What about Condileeza Rice? What about Meg Whitman?
How can this pick be anything other than a major insult to these hardworking, successful and experienced Republican women?
McCain wants to pick a woman? Fine. He wants to pick a conservative woman? Fine. He wants to pick a pro-life, pro-gun, pro-big oil, etc woman? Fine. But why Sara Palin???
There are many, many more successful and experienced Republican women out there. Below is a list - I do not know if they'd be a fit for McCain ideologically - but the point is that there are so many experienced, Republican women he could have looked at - this boggles the mind.
Governors and former Governors
Jane Dee Hull (Arizona)
Christie Todd Whitman (New Jersey)
Linda Lingle (Hawaii)
M. Jodi Rell (Connnecticut)
Senate
Kay Bailey Hutchison (Texas)
Olympia Snowe (Maine)
Elizabeth Dole (North Carolina)
Lisa Murkowski (Alaska)
Susan Collins (Maine)
House of Representatives
Ileano Ros-Lehtinen (Florida)
Sue Myrick (North Carolina)
Kay Granger (Texas)
Heather Wilson (New Mexico)
What about Carly Fiorina? Condi Rice? Meg Whitman?
This choice is a slap in the face to all these women and more who have worked long and hard to get where they are today.
I have been sitting here scratching my head over this Veep pick. There has to be some "crazy like a fox" thing going on, right? I just can't figure it out though. Any ideas as to why the pick this one?
Is it that they think they can keep bringing up the experience thing? Obama says - your veep has no experience; McCain says - oh yea, I'm rubber your glue what bounces off me sticks to you. Do they think that whining about ageism when Obama brings up the "heartbeat away" thing will get them very far? I just do not know.
I do know that in my lifetime 2 vice presidents have assumed the presidency (Johnson and Ford), the office of VP is not important of itself but I sure want a VP to be someone who I thought could handle the 3 a.m. phone call in the event.
McCain picked Palin precisely because it is so completely nuts! The pick is so out there that no one is even talking about Obama's amazing speech last night. No, it will be Palin, 24/7. Karl Rove strikes again.
