Original article: Camille's back!

And so modest to boot....

Here's one for the All-Time Unchecked Columnist Ego File: "...after I burst on the national scene in 1990 with the publication of Sexual Personae." I can't imagine another Salon columnist (even Conason!) making such a remark without irony.

And who can possibly care that the paperback and hardcover editions of her latest book are published by different imprints?

Camille, we love you, but all the self-promotion and name and credential-dropping distract from... basically everything else in the piece. SPARE US.

Haggling over the price

I bet everyone agrees that it's entirely reasonable for an airline to hold passengers on the tarmac for 30 minutes. I also bet everyone agrees that it would be entirely unreasonable for an airline to hold passengers on the tarmac for 5 days, regardless of the excuse.

So, this whole argument is really just about where that line should be drawn. Is 3 hours too short? 10 hours too long?

Because customers and airlines seem to have different opinions about where that line should be, the decision will have to fall to a regulator, a legislature, or a court.

Hello, troll

What can you possibly be talking about?

Prince, Bono, Eddie Vedder, Anthony Kiedis, Dave Matthews, James Hetfield, Billie Joe, Snoop Dogg, Thom Yorke, and Jay-Z, just for starters.

Heck, even Scott Weiland and that dude from the Goo Goo Dolls... ok, maybe not the Goo Goo Dolls dude, but still.

You don't have to be elitist to be elite.

Troll much? Search and replace on any human endeavor practiced by a few elites and a host of enthusiastic but untalented amateurs (golf, music, acting, beer making, blogging, etc.). In none of those cases does it follow that the elites aren't good anymore because there are too many amateurs around. In fact, just the opposite is true. Participation in amateur athletics/music/whatever increases interest in general and builds the pool from which the elites can eventually be found and nurtured. Plus, it's good for business. The running bums I know, who do still work at shoe stores, are the most friendly and welcoming semi-pros I've ever met (just try to join a poker club sometime--those guys are pricks). The running bums are genuinely enthusiastic when I mention that I finally ran below an 8-minute mile for the first time ("Hey, dude, that's awesome!"). And then they hand me a flyer for the 10K they're running this weekend.

Airport congestion and the A380

The current technical issue with the A380 is the potential size of its wake vortex. The FAA currently requires the spacing between an A380 and planes behind it to be much larger than spacing behind a B747 or other heavy aircraft.

http://www.faa.gov/airports_airtraffic/air_traffic/publications/at_notices/media/N7110.478.pdf

Multiple smaller planes can land in the same slot that a single A380 requires. So, until those FAA wake vortex rules change (which will happen eventually), there's not much chance that the A380 can reduce congestion at airports.

Kara Ascends

Kara isn't an angel nor is she a ghost. She is a savior. She's a human (perhaps with a divine parent) sent by him/her/it/them to guide and save humanity. She is given some, but not all, of the knowledge she needs to do this. She dies before she finishes. She is reborn. When, finally, she completes her task, she ascends. This theme goes all the way back in the series. Also, it's a bit of lovely irony given the controversy a female Starbuck generated among the fans--think about the controversy a female Jesus would generate among His numerous fans.

Also, you can see Kara as having a special connection to saving Lee. She leads humanity to Earth 2, but it's only when Lee finally admits that he has new goals and ambitions for his otherwise aimless life, that she finally disappears.

Finale = gorgeous.
