  • Not to get all political, Drinkwater

But you may have noticed that we are currently living in a country where the President lies with impugnity, wages personal wars with the lives of our children, and has a higher approval rating in Venezuela than he does here. We also have a congress that refuses to do anything about him, an economy that is sliding towards depression at an ever quickening pace, and a great new law that makes it illegal to even protest against anything the government does much less actively try stop them. And I won't even go into the fact that all of this - all of it - is a direct result of the cultural and political revolution you correctly point to as the turning point of our nation.

If everything is going into the shitter and we can't do anything about it because the other 299,000,000 or so Americans won't stand up against it, I may as well be entertained.

  • You call that ridicule?

C'mon, King, a sports writer of your ability must surely have been on the receiving end of much harsher criticism than that!

You overestimated Michigan and underestimated Appalachian State. And you made light of several schools because they don't happen to have 65,000 students. Pointing this out is subjecting you to ridicule?

You'd think a guy with such a bad cartoon at the top of his column would have developed a thicker skin.

  • A pretty tenuous connection

Yeah, yeah. Do it yourself videos cross over into mainstream media. Who cares? Happened long ago with America's Funniest Home Videos. If a network ever decided to give this guy a show based on how many hits he got on YouTube (God forbid), that might be news, and might actually have something to do with technology.

Surely someone, somewhere, is doing something interesting in technology today. Please call them the next time you feel the urge to interview a drama queen who is famous for defending trailer trash. And please don't post links to his videos, you'll only encourage him. Please.

  • Slow week

Bourdain is one of the few bright spots in what has turned out to be a pretty dismal season. Tim Allen and Anthony are the only things worth watching. They need to go back to picking their own chefs instead of having them nominated by their peers. While some seem to enjoy having a group of "nice guys" (minus one), the cooking has been just plain boring when it wasn't stupid and I can't bring myself to care who wins.

Same can be said about the Emmy's.

  • James Harris

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Played for the Rams back in the 70's, behind Pat Haden. Monster arm, 80 yards in the air. Highly mobile. Kind of like the prototype for Michael Vick, except his arm was a lot better and he was actually a good quarterback - highest completion percentage in Rams history when he left in '76. And all we would hear was "Well yeah, he's a great athlete, but...". Fill in the blanks. He wasn't as smart as Haden, but Pat was a Rhodes Scholar, smarter than Terry Bradshaw and Fran Tarkenton put together, and Harris still outplayed him the majority of the time.

That's the background McNabb is playing in front of. So I can understand him thinking that maybe his race has something to do with the criticism he faces. At one point last year the Dolphins didn't have a white QB on their roster (Culpepper, Lemon, and Handran (sp?), who is Iranian) and the racists came out of the woodwork. And that was the only thing they cared about, no white quarterbacks.

That said, I think the Phillie fans would like Donovan just fine if they were winning. Yes they will be critical no matter what, but that's just how they are. Unless you are one of them, and by that I don't mean white, I mean Ron Jaworski, they are going to think you could have done better.

Eli Manning and Brian Griese (his dad, Elway, and Marino!) have had it at least as bad as Donovan, and you won't find many guys whiter than them.

  • Isn't it obvious?

The girl in Private Practice uses the same Fantasy Real Estate Agent who got Kevin Bacon a Manhattan loft he could ride a bicycle around in on a messenger's salary.

Hey, you're in the biz. Think you could hook a brother up?

I don't care about any of the shows you wrote about this week, and I won't be watching any of them. Well, you may have convinced me to give Ugly Betty a try. But the first part of this article is what keeps me reading.

  • Take it easy on the real cops

[Read the article: Is Star Simpson's "fake bomb" just an art jacket?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Who were probably just responding to a call from TSA telling them there was a person with a bomb at the airport. From what's happened in my area it seems like it's against the law for anyone with actual law enforcement training of any sort to provide security at an international airport. The Broward County Sherrif's Office tried to do it at Ft Lauderdale - Hollywood International in 2001 and the President himself told them to beat feet.

So the sherrif simply stopped every car before it got to the airport, I guess assuming it might take the new guys some time to get up to speed on combatting terrorism after investing so much of their lives in making Whoppers and washing cars. BSO stopped one very nice little rich girl and asked the standard "is there anything in your car that we should know about?", to which she replied "Yeah, there's a bomb in my trunk." And do you know they had the audacity to throw this sweet, innocent, spoiled, obnoxious bitch's ass in jail and then present her with a bill for the complete and total disassembly of a Mustang convertible?

2 sides to every story, but TSA really is usually on the wrong one.
