  • Swinging for the infield

[Read the article: I Like to Watch]

These guys are just trying to get through the summer, not make television history.

Damages has mini-series written all over it - starts at the end and stars someone unlikely to spend more than a year doing the same thing. One and done. They had to get Glenn Close, and to their credit they did. I kept expecting her to kill Mackey's dog or start burying drug dealers under her house on The Shield, so this role is made for her. The show feels strangely like Alias to me. I need to watch it again, because it just couldn't hold my attentuon the first time. Maybe the second time will be the charm.

Kill Point drags you in with John Leguizamo and Donnie Walburg, and then keep you there by having almost the entire cast of The Wire in supporting roles. The political overtones are heavy handed, but I found JL's character a lot more sympathetic than you did. He's going to do what he has to, he's been doing that for a long time, but he really is a basically good guy caught in a bad situation through a series of unfortunate events. I liked the battle of wits between Walburg and Leguizamo. I'll probably watch it again, to see where it goes (if it goes anywhere). But how long can it go on, when it is yet another show based on a situation that has to end? Is Walburg the actual star, with Leguizamo doing a guest season?

Saving Grace is just... I don't even have a word for it. An unimaginiative play on the hooker with a heart of gold theme, I guess. Holly Hunter is great casting because she looks like she's a hard 40 trying to be 30, but the writers have done nothing to make me care if she straightens herself out or not. The special effects are incredibly bad, cheapening an already cheap concept. Glad to see Lem finally got a real job, but they aren't using him very well. So far, the best part about this show is it means one less hour of Law and Order. I liked Saved a lot better than this, and that show didn't make it, so I don't have high hopes for this one.

I do like The Closer, since someone brought that show up, even though the sudden-insight-gained-from-an-unrelated-plotline gimmick is getting a little old. The characters are great, almost every one of them, and the cases are actually interesting most of the time. So far, this is TNT's only good original show.

  • You're not a racist

[Read the article: I've got a stupid racist ditty playing in my head]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

At least I don't think you are.

If you are only concerned about this because you are afraid you are going to sing the song out loud and others will think you are a racist, then maybe you are. If it's just stuck there and you really want it out because you think it's petty and small minded, you aren't a racist, you are a victim of catchiness - something your Asperger's Syndrome makes you more prone to. These little ditties are purposely catchy, that's part of their insidiousness, and also why they pop back into your head after a few decades. It's no different than when I had that "little bit of Monica" song stuck in my head for 2 months, just more disconcerting.

Here's what you do. Go to your favorite music download site. I don't know what kind of music you like, but you need to load up on stuff with absolutely wicked hooks. Sweet, Def Lepard, Bay City Rollers, Journey, Abba, Kalis, MC Hammer - whatever floats your boat. Hard core 70's pop is really good, but catchiness is something that crosses all musical boundaries so you will find something you like. And try to find stuff you have listened to in the past. You didn't have to like it, it just needs to have memories associated with it. Once you have a bunch of songs, put them into a playlist and let it run until you are cured. These people all made boatloads of money writing songs that push everything else out of your head.

    Trust the professionals.

  • Selfish?

[Read the article: Are men spoiled rotten?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Men who want something different from what you want are selfish? Cary is right, you just sound bitter.

Even if we already have kids, the chance to do it again and maybe do it better than we did the first time is very compelling. And as unfair as it seems to you, this is something we get that you don't. On top of that, acknowledging that we will procreate no longer is a big, difficult step. Would you do it if you didn't have to?

If you are looking for real, romantic love, you didn't have it from those 3 guys. Either they wanted kids more than they wanted you, or they used kids as an excuse to get out of the relationship.

You seem smart and accomplished, but maybe that is leading you to miss something obvious when choosing your relationships, probably because its obvious. Before you get really serious in a relationship, find out if the guy wants kids. Don't assume that because he is with a 47 year old and saying he wants a long term relationship that he is past that. Find out. Make him really think about it, because he probably hasn't, or find out what his thoughts are if he has. Don't do it too soon, of course :) But when things seem to be going to the next level, find out before either of you gets hurt.

You need to find a guy who has has a vasectomy, or can't have kids for some other reason. Puts you on an even playing field. But even then, the topic of adoption may come up, so be ready.
