I continue...

I continue to wonder what Obnoxious Anonymous thinks he/she is trying to achieve. Seriously. Is there a point to continuing? Let's see, if the 4 or 5 people currently active here, who actually is persuaded by his diatribe? No one from what I can tell.

Some people have defined madness as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. In that case, I think OA's attempt to convert someone to his thinking over and over again is some kind of sign of madness. I guess I feel bad for that.

I have maintained an attitude here at Salon that except in cases where anonymity is preserved for personal privacy matters, anyone who posts arguments like this anonymously are not worth any of our regard.

Original article: Tom the Dancing Bug

uh

Well the thing is it's not really funny if it's all true.

That's the thing about comics, they're supposed to be comedic, you know?

Original article: Boys against girl?

equality?

If you mean belief in equality as an abstract principle, ok. But if you mean belief that equality actually exists in the here and now, well, I'd much rather have a liberal in charge who is well-acquainted with reality. Sorry but sexism still exists. If it did not then Hillary Clinton would not be the first female candidate for president who actually had a chance of winning. That's just the facts.

So she plays dirty like the rest of them. No no, I take it back, her campaign team plays dirty like the rest of them. Sometimes dirtier. Would you prefer she were totally politically naive?

oy

What Mr. E fails to mention and what has already been pointed out here is that the "Woman Abuser" was let off by a jury dominated and led by men.

Doctors, heal thyselves.

right.

I can see it now:

(a feminist): Let's see, what's on the to-do list today... campaigning for parental rights, fighting genital mutilation, and railing against the main stream media and its portrayal of women as sluts and whores.

WAIT A MINUTE... HOLD EVERYTHING.

I forgot about the VAJAYJAY.

Of all the things to happen to feminists, this is CLEARLY THE MOST TERRIFYING.

well

I will never be more than a recreational runner. I can maybe do 3 miles in 30 minutes if I don't get distracted by the poor selections of my iPod's shuffling. So I am entirely unqualified to talk about running, I suppose.

But I am a top-notch musician in top-notch ensembles at one of the best music schools in the country. As much as I may patronize community orchestras that have difficulty pulling together a Strauss waltz or Finlandia, as much as I may cringe when I have to listen to a mediocre high school band butcher the latest Eric Whitacre transcription, I would never, ever suggest that people doing what they love... even if they aren't great at it, and even if they might be technically dragging the average down for the Josh Bells and Yo-Yo Mas of the world... I would never, ever begrudge them the opportunity to do what they're doing.

Not everyone in this world is cut out to be more than an amateur. But the contempt we often treat amateurs with is alarmingly meanspirited. Especially when you consider that most professionals and others of the so-called "elite" in almost any field were once amateurs or nurtured by them.

Pink ghetto?

Maybe I missed something but I've never heard Broadsheet referred to as a pink ghetto before. Silly me.

But yeah, I don't quite see the comparison. Broadsheet is a blog devoted to women's issues, hence it talks about women's issues.

The style and fashion section of a newspaper is devoted to style and fashion, hence it talks about... women in business?

hey anonymous

Maybe if you were "man" enough (ha!) to actually admit to who you were, we might actually address you like a normal human being.

Or maybe not, since you're just a dipshit anyway.

You're so predictable it's sad.

Let's all keep in mind

A few writers have noted this already, but some people seem to have ignored it, so I just want to remind everyone that the author of this article has completed exactly one marathon, in 4 hours and 16 minutes.

Which, we are led to believe, makes him an infinitely superior kind of runner to Oprah and her 2:29.

You heard it here first, on Salon, folks. 13 minutes is what separates the ELITE runners from the flabby, feel-good amateur television hosts who are bringing mediocrity to America and causing us good Americans to lose to the Kenyans and... to... other Americans who aren't really American.

hey!

For those of you elite runners out there who are crying that the fat kids stole your Boston Marathon, you should all visit my great home state of Montana and undertake the Bridger Ridge Run, a 20-mile race along the ridges of the Bridger Mountains at approximately 9000' elevation. There aren't thousands of people competing and nearly all who do are local.

Of course, that might be a little bit of an extreme sport for you poor marathoners. Better stick to bashing Oprah.

I'm afraid...

I am afraid, Nulla Sallus, that having two "coronary events" does not really qualify you as normally healthy.

There are plenty of people who might not necessarily be able to run a mile in 6 minutes but are perfectly physically healthy. And will probably never have any kind of coronary event.
