  • Another couple of stumbles

[Read the article: Your prissy mainstream media at work]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I agree with the principle that if you don't want a political cartoon, don't run one. Cheney, OPEC and Exxon are to blame for the high gas prices. Cheney let the oil companies write our energy policy. Exxon benefited from this largesse; even OPEC says that oil is selling too high, but it's easier to blame China and India than look at our own speculators.

In the same way, Obama should have had a clue that a comedian who routinely uses sexist jokes might do the same if asked to open for an Obama fundraiser -- does anyone remember Colbert and the Washington Press Club? I think it's another of Obama's "thanks, honey" moments, which are becoming more and more frequent.

  • I must have missed

[Read the article: Rush Limbaugh was right]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

the cover of the New Yorker where Bush was portrayed as a Coke-sniffing, boozing, syncophant with father issues. Could someone point me to that issue? I doubt that they even bothered to run a story on Bush's return to alcohol use during his WH stay.

  • Nice ad

[Read the article: Planned Parenthood ad slams McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm vaguely reminded of Bush reading to those children on 9/11. Not a clue what to say or do.

Of course, the simple answer is that older men run the insurance companies and older men care more about erections than getting pregnant. But I can't imagine what FOX news would say if a candidate actually said erection during a campaign stop..

  • Right at home

[Read the article: Catholic group asks McCain camp to drop controversial figure]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Hudson should have felt right at home with McCain, who ran around on his wife with much younger women as well (and apparently still does if rumors are to be believed.)

  • Fiorina

[Read the article: McCain advisor woos Clinton supporters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Of course, one of the reasons for her firing was that she was involved in illegal surveillance of her board and employees, and oversaw illegal manipulations to do it.

That might be a perfect fit for McCain. But I don't see how she could be talk her way out of McCain's temper and his famous comment to his wife "stupid cunt."

  • Dog Whisperer

[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I've gotten tired of D-list actors being on the show, trying to get 15 minutes of exposure via their pets. We've seen Kathy Griffin and Denise Richards to name 2. Get back to the "normal" people who need real help with thir pets and not actors.

  • It's not just foreign policy

[Read the article: Rendering public opinion irrelevant ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Last time I checked adding gays/lesbians to federal employment non-discrimination pollicies ran at lik 87% approval in US polls. However, is it federal policy? No, it's not. That seems like a no-brainer.

I'm old enough to remember voting for candidates who asked your opinions on things and voted the way that their constiuents wanted. Now it's all about your base, lobbyists and dollars.

  • Integrity? Seriously?

    [Read the article: Novak retires]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

As the victim of a hit-and-run driver, I would use many words to describe a driver who hits a person and leaves them without checking for the seriousness of their wounds. Integrity is not one of them.

Self-serving, thinks they are above the law, self-important -- but those are also the words we would use to describe the man who outed Valerie Plame and was a tool (in more ways than one) of Dick Cheney.

  • Today's paper of record

[Read the article: The National Enquirer responds]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Well, as long as Judith Miller and similar reporters are so cozy with the politicians, then perhaps the tabloids are going to step in and fill a void of investigative reporting in our country.

Granted, it's not the way we'd like to see things, but perhaps the MSM will wake up when they're scooped by a few more tabloids.

They actually have a pretty good record on political stories, Gary Hart, etc.

This week they're reporting that Bush and Laura have split up because he has returned to drinking.. Draw your own conclusions.

  • Teachers should be asexual?

[Read the article: Happily never after]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There are about 7 pregnant teachers in our middle school at the moment.. Good luck on that one.

  • It's all for show

[Read the article: Are we now officially a Christian nation?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

George Bush ran on a platform of being an evangelical, and what exactly did he do for them? Precious little. No end to abortion, no FMA, and he failed miserably in the Shiavo case. He made incremental gains in some programs such as faith-based initiatives, but overall his religious views did not drive most of his major policy decisions. Greed, cronyism, and the desire to best daddy did.

I forget the interview, but one reporter asked Bush about the yearlong study of the Book of Acts that supposedly drove his conversion and path away from alcoholism. The reporter asked what story or verses changed his life, and Bush couldn't remember a thing about it. I found it near to impossible to believe that a man whose life was changed by a book of the Bible could remember so little.

Rove saw them as a part of the Republican base, a group that had to be gladhanded during the election and then ignored during the Presidency.

It appears from his comments that Obama sees the GLBT population the same way.

  • Palin's thoughts on welfare

[Read the article: Should Obama have picked Hillary?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't know of any parents of Down Syndrome babies who have not had to sign up for some sort of Medicaid/disability/SSI for their child, especially as he reaches adulthood and the parents think of their own deaths.

I'll be interested to hear Palin discuss the Republican's "small government" policies and how they are going to run up against her own needs. She will rely on all these programs in a few years as a safety net for her own child.

  • Not exactly leadership

[Read the article: McCain's crazy debate gambit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

McCain is on the Armed Services committee and Indian Affairs. Obama is Foreign Affairs and Veteran Affairs. Neither of these two would be considered Senate leadership.

After the Keating Five Scandal, where McCain took money to keep one of the ringleaders of our last national fiscal crisis out of jail, no Senator in his right mind would want this man around.

  • Favorite moment

[Read the article: Obama and McCain face off]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

My favorite moment wasn't actually during the debate. Just following the debate, the VP candidates were asked to comment on their candidate's performance.

Sarah (What's a Bush policy?) Palin's camp *refused* to participate! They ended up with Rudy of all people. How loudly can we scream she is not ready???

  • Not a new piece

[Read the article: The 269-269 scenario]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This story showed up on the news wire 2 days ago.. It didn't make much sense there either, considering the way that the polls are trending.
