  • My hope

[Read the article: McCain's tax troubles]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I really can't wait until someone has the sense to look into Cindy McCain's business interests. I want to see McCain's campaign when it turns out that she pays her employees next to nothing, hires illegals or doesn't give adequate health care. I believe that credit card debt and tax bills are only the tip of this iceberg.

  • Always homosexual

[Read the article: Auto-replace is not always your friend]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I can always tell a right wingnut on a talk show when they're talking about LGBT issues. He will always use the word homosexual instead of gay, lesbian, etc and stretch it into about 7 syllables.

I figured one of their handlers told them that the old school word is more condemning.

  • One down

[Read the article: Obama proposes bankruptcy relief]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

So now Obama wants to take back some of what was given away when the Senate let the financial services industry write credit law. He will still have to deal with the energy policy written by the oil companies (nice job they did with their current profit levels) AND the telecom industry rewriting FISA. Unfortunately, he will not be able to distinguish himself from McCain on that one...

    >>That's right folks, stop supporting Obama. The message needs to be sent to Democratic leaders that the only way to beat the Republicans is to stop supporting Democrats when they disappoint us. If that is your attitude, then fuck off. Your support was never strong to begin with. >>

What would you have us do at this point? Just swallow and follow a man who just trampled our most basic rights? He already knows he has our votes, so how then can we express our disapproval? His largest group on his website was dedicated to this issue, and that didn't give him a clue.. I've voted Democrat for over 30 years and I can't remember ever being this disappointed in a candidate.

  • Why FISA matters

[Read the article: Obama bites the bullet on FISA]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I think part of the reason I'm so disappointed w/ Obama is that he made the subject of his vote mattering when he made an issue of his vote against the war in Iraq. Even though the war was going to be approved and even though he might take crap for it, he voted against the war because it was in line with his principles.

On FISA, many of the letters are saying that his vote wouldn't have counted, and he didn't want to give the Republicans fodder to use in the election. Which is it? Does the vote count or does it not? Do principles matter or don't they? And once he's in office, not a one of us can make him not use illegal wiretaps -- and he WILL use them.

For those who ask, I don't yell about McCain, because I expect poor decisions from him. I'd be more surprised if he took a principled stand.

I was already holding my nose about Obama -- his stand on marriage equality is appalling. Millions can marry legally, but he thinks it's wrong. And then along comes another sticking point for me.. Yet good old Mike is asking me to suck it up; likely I will vote for Obama, but there's no fire there. He's not the second coming; he's just another politician. The older I get, the more I care about issues and the less I care about politicians.

  • It's been said before

[Read the article: Obama hopes to go where JFK went before]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

But Senator, you are no Jack Kennedy

  • One way or the other

[Read the article: Was Obama's FISA vote "calculated"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Conservatives wants us to trash the Constitution and take away our liberties for national security.

Liberals wants us to trash the Constitution and take away our liberties to take back the White House..

    Is there a difference????

  • Disagree

[Read the article: Let us now praise Jesse Helms]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm sure that the thousands of young men who died of AIDS while Helms held up funding for research would disagree, if Helms' policies hadn't signed their death warrants years ago. The left owes him nothing

  • Disconnect

[Read the article: Sorting out the dueling education coalitions]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There's no way to connect low-income students with the very best educators until those educators are paid fairly. Currently, inner-city schools do not pay the same wages as the suburbs. Why wouldn't teachers go where the money is?

Also the high-stakes testing and the push for pay-for-play initiatives means that teachers will want to go with the sure thing, the students who are already proficient. Inner city students with difficult family situations and rampant poverty. It's hard to come to school and excel when your home life is in flux. Currently, teachers are measured against teachers in all-white, upper class neighborhoods. Until teachers are commended for trying to close the gap between rich and poor there won't be a real desire for more teachers to take that chance.

  • Ridiculous

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I was on a recent flight. I had to get my laptop out of its bag. The TSA wanker picks it up, dropped it (by accident) and broke the wireless card. She picked it back up and threw it on the conveyor without a word of apology.

I was in Dallas when they put in the full-body scanners. Who needs porn when you get to see real people naked?? They don't have gender-segregated lines, so male TSA are watching naked women come through the line. What a job for a perv!

The TSA is incredibly reactionary. We don't have a coherent policy on flight safety; we just have a series of rules based on past happenings. Lockerbie -- take out your electronics. Shoe bomb -- take off your shoes, etc. So of course, it's arbitrary and silly. If we ever get a rational being in charge of Homeland Security, perhaps they could come up with a policy that would make sense to the airlines and the public.

  • BO, Bernie Mac and Wilco

[Read the article: Another bad week for John McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The week isn't over, and Obama's isn't getting any better. There's an article today about how Bernie Mac told off-color jokes at a fundraiser for BO. BO's response: That's not nice, oh, but I'm just kidding, Bernie. Flip, flop...Then they all went to see Wilco and meet them.

After a hard week of trashing the Constitution and pissing off your base, a guy needs to go hang out with his Hollywood and rock star pals. I'm seeing a guy seduced by the recognition and fame, who is quickly just becoming a celeb wannabe.
