  • @ Dubmanny - McCain's profession is "Political Candidate" also

[Read the article: Obama: "This is exactly the time" for a debate]

It's just that, in comparison to Obama, he sucks at it. Which is fortunate, because it shows how he also sucks at thought, planning, restraining his temper, foreign policy, economic policy, and (most sadly) maintaining his integrity.

It's a tragedy to see someone like McCain, who actually once seemed to stand for something, suck up to the GOP and outright lie and support lies about his opponent, just to win.

Say what you want about Obama, but he has not released campaign ads which are anywhere near as blatantly deceptive as McCain.

  • @ Elephantman - McCain outmaneuvered Obama? How?

[Read the article: Obama: "This is exactly the time" for a debate]

It seems pretty clear that McCain tried to reschedule the debate rather than face Obama - and Obama plainly called his bluff.

It seems more like McCain has impulsively outmaneuvered himself into a corner.

  • An open answer to Elephantman

Who is supposed to solve the financial crisis?

If it truly is a crisis, then whoever is needed to solve it.

So what is Obama's role, as a sitting U.S. Senator, in terms of legislation that is being worked on now and may be voted on by the weekend?

The same as McCain's - join the work if needed. And according to those currently working on the legislation, right now neither McCain nor Obama are needed.

So what can they do in the meantime? Well, they can, like Obama, actually address the crisis in terms of a press conference, and formulate a coherent set of statements as to what the legislation should look like. And stand firm in the confidence that they can hold a debate before the American people - because it's important that America see how they respond to questions under pressure.

Or they can, like McCain, attempt to flee the stage and hide from the public by cancelling the debate. And with a transparent excuse of the sort that would embarass any junior high-schooler.

  • @ Benny 74 - let me fix that post for you.

This is [McCain] ...putting his self-interest ahead of the good of the country. He was elected and [has pledged to be honest and have integrity], and at a time when [showing America who he really is] is crucial, he puts it on the back burner. This is the most important [chance to show himself to America] in his entire career, and he doesn't want to go to [face Obama and get his ass kicked.].

McCain is showing [in]decisive [lack of]leadership, his [lack of] commitment to Country First, [cowardice], and [un]willingness to lead [or even show himself] in crisis.

True colors have come out this week on both sides. [McCain] defines [regulation] as wealthy people [paying no taxes] for those who do not pay taxes to receive [foreclosure notices], while not willing to reach into his own pocket to give more than 0.3% of his income to charity. [Palin] hasn't given much more [attention to her duties in reality], and now we see is willing to watch, and do nothing to help, [women who were raped in Alaska - by trying to force them to pay for their own rape kits]. Yet the [Republican] ticket claims to be the ticket of [compassionate conservatism], and that "we are our brothers' keeper." - [as long as "brother" means rich, white, straight, Christian, conservative and male].

    Fixed for you.

  • @ Elephantman - still dodging the point.

Right. Senate Finance Committee first, then House Banking Committee, and then Conference... and THEN Obama votes the way that Schumer and Durbin tell him to vote. Just like always.

That only proves the point that McCain and Obama aren't even involved in the current legislation, and therefore don't need to "cancel" or even "reschedule" the next slated debate.

I'm sorry you feel compelled to make excuses for McCain. But that doesn't change the fact that McCain is clearly drumming up an excuse to avoid debating.

  • @ bucks4mccain - you don't really believe that do you?

I mean, it makes no logical sense.

McCain is the one that wanted 10 town hall meetings with Obama. Obama declined.

What's that word? Declined. Not "chickened out and rescheduled when he screwed up for a solid week and the polls shifted against him."

Yet, Obama would prefer to avoid going to Washington (which is currently where is job is located) to work a bi-partisan solution to resolve this problem

Obama has said he's happy to go if he's needed. The Senate has said they don't need him or McCain injecting Presidential politics into this. You know that.

because he would prefer to have a debate on foreign policy (his weakest topic) without any competition.

It will only be without any competition, if McCain actually chickens out. (Although it's true that if he does show up, it probably won't be much competition for Obama either.)

Funny how Harry Reid begged for McCain to return to DC to get bi-partisan support, but now suddenly he says they don't need McCain.

Funny how what actually happened was different. Actually Reid said that if McCain actually supported Bush's initial crap bill, he should have the 'nads to show up to defend it. When McCain said he didn't support Bush's bill, that was the end of that.

Of course, I can understand because I can't keep up with Obama's stances on anything either. They seem to change with the setting of the sun everyday.

So tell me, does McCain support regulation? Or does he support deregulation? (You may want to check his website for his latest position.)

I mean, come on! These are actual facts you're contradicting here. Why do you contradict them?

  • @ God of Biscuits - which one is that?
