Hillary can't and won't be VP:
[Read the article: Could be Biden time]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Here's 6 of the first reasons why:
1. She would undermine Barack and suck oxygen out of his campaign coverage, with her presence alone
2. She would increase conservative voter turnout against the ticket
3. She was for the Iraq invasion, whereas Obama was against it; this undermines the Democratic ticket's strength on this vital issue.
4. She provides no benefit to the ticket that Obama doesn't already have.
More importantly:
5. There's no clear indication Hillary *wants* to be VP
But most importantly of all:
6. Obama doesn't appear to want her.
And my guess with no evidence is that, at bottom, Obama couldn't work with her in office. They are both people who have to run things their way.

Implement user-rating system for comments, and things'll go so much easier. Really.
[Read the article: Betrayed by Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And you won't have to deal with deleting offensive or obscene comments.
Just look at the system that Dailykos.com has, and put something in place exactly like that. It is a great and effective way to weed out those aren't interested in genuine discussion.
I say this as someone who loves reading salon and engaging in spirited discussion and debate, and hates to see that ruined by comments from potty-mouthed and mean-spirited people.

I too am terribly disappointed by Obama's vote on FISA
[Read the article: Betrayed by Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But, perhaps unfortunately, it's not unforgivable. Even with this vote on this piece of crap legislation, he's still better than McCain.
I couldn't vote for McCain even if he approved of Roe v. Wade, voted "no" on FISA and was a Democrat. McCain still would be completely without any plans, nightmarishly out-of-touch with modern technology, possessed of a demonic temper that should never be anywhere near The Button, and dishonest with others and with himself.
I wish he'd done differently on FISA, but this is only one fire of about 200 (and counting), and Obama's the only chance we have to put out the other 199.

Glad to hear of a book that treats a child realistically, and not patronizingly
[Read the article: The history boy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That the narrator can read and understand concepts which some grownups find difficult, is in fact realistic. It's a common mistake to think that adults are automatically smarter than children. They certainly are more experienced and (usually) wiser But a child can know and understand far more than an adult - and often children do.

I call David Brooks a wilfully delusional propagandist, a concern troll, and a faux-everyman elitist
[Read the article: David Brooks calls Barack Obama a sojourner]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And his columns wrap horrible sex crimes against logic in a soothing verbal bunting of pink chiffon.
EOM.

Liar's remorse
[Read the article: David Brooks calls Barack Obama a sojourner]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Referring to David Brooks as the liar, of course.
...I find it interesting that in the early days of Barak Obama he was seemingly a fan. As time passed and Barak began to look more human, more like all of the Washington insiders, his interest seems to have turned to criticism.
David Brooks is a Republican operative. So this is not surprising in the slightest. Brooks supported Obama when it seemed he would not win and would sap strength from stronger Dem candidates; when Obama in fact emerged as the strongest candidate, Brooks suddenly swung aronud to oppose him.
And I don't see how Obama has appeared "suddenly more human". He's been criticized at every possible angle from the get-go.
David is like so many followers...
I'll stop you right there: Brooks is not and never was a follower. David Brooks is a Republican operative. Period.
I think the polls are close for a few reasons: polls are crap,
- this first reason invalidates all the following reasons
- the polls are wider than Bush vs. Kerry OR Bush v. Gore - and this time Obama has the advantage in more swing states
...perhaps most importantly many Obama supportors believed all his primary rhetoric. The notion that he really is just a politician has left many scratching their heads.
- which has not resulted in any poll drop among Obama supporters.
David is really correct in his assessment. What do we really know about this man and how much are we willing to risk to find out?
1. David is not corrent in his assessment.
2. Look at McCain. How much are we willing to risk how unsuitable we *know* McCain to be - in terms of his complete ignorance on the economy, his deliberately false and pandering appeasement re: gasoline, and his incoherent strategy and factually wrong statements re: Iraq?
Not to mention McCain's raging temper, misogynism, proven past corruption (Keating Five, look it up), repeated senior moments, and the fact that his own state Arizona doesn't even like him that much any more?
You look at the facts and make your bets, that's what you do.
