@AKA Smith
[Read the article: The other 18 million]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Here's a simple fact that Obama supporters do not understand: He won.
Oh, we understand it. We loooove it, in fact. :) :) :)
The assumption that they had no actual reasons for supporting Clinton over Obama other than his race or her gender is absurd.
Of course. It's also just as absurd to assume that Obama supporters had no reason to support Obama over Clinton, other than her gender.
Right? So, what's all this "she lost because of sexism" stuff?
These despicable misogynists are just as evil as any racist. Obama has some of their votes.
Since Obama won, Clinton has only so much power to move her supporters into his column.
Sure. But, if she wants a Democrat in the White House, shouldn't she use that power?
Feminists can no longer be sure that the Democratic party (and specifically progressive male opinion makers) offers anything to women as a group.
Do you really believe this?
You know how conservative judges feel about Roe v. Wade, right? Who do you think is more likely to appoint a conservative judge to the SCOTUS - Obama or McCain?
Honestly.
These women have no moral obligation to heal wounds in a Party that has so insulted them.
HOW HAS THIS PARTY INSULTED THEM?
Just because more people picked Obama over Hillary?
Please explain this. Because this has no factual basis at all, as stated.
I saw some of the racist losers in West Virginia. NOt all Clinton supporters are racist, or even most - but they sure were. Does the Democratic party OR Hillary owe Obama an apology because of them?
There are many legal reasons why the overturn of Roe v. Wade would not be a disaster. Leaving those legal reasons aside, older women don't need abortions. Moreover, many younger women could use a rude wake up call.
So, this is how you expect feminism to win the trust of younger women:
Either they vote for the candidate *you* like, or hope they will have to get illegal abortions. Either way, you don't care because you don't need them any more, so they can go screw themselves. With hangers.
Does that sound like something *you* would have agreed with, when you were a young woman?
You want your own feminist movement? You don't want us? Wish granted.
This at last comes to the core of it - this hurt that your candidate has lost.
Look, AKASmith - a rejection of Hillary is not a rejection of your *or* of feminism in general. It just means that more people thought another candidate was better.
That's really all there is to it.

@AKASmith
[Read the article: The other 18 million]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This statement blows my mind so much, I want to address it as a separate comment.
There are many legal reasons why the overturn of Roe v. Wade would not be a disaster. Leaving those legal reasons aside, older women don't need abortions. Moreover, many younger women could use a rude wake up call.
So, this is how I'm understanding this train of thought:
1) too many younger women don't support your view of feminism
2) younger women would appreciate your view of feminism more, if older feminists such as yourself let Roe v. wade get overturned.
3) it's fine if Roe v. wade got overturned, because "older women don't need abortions".
Can you understand just how appallingly selfish and contemptously dismissive of young women that is?
Does that sound like something *you* would have agreed with, when you were a young woman?
Either younger women prove their unity with feminism voting for the candidate *you* like - or you, as a feminist, hope they will have to get illegal abortions.
Besides, it won't affect you, because you don't need abortions any more. So your fellow women can go screw themselves. With hangers. For being so selfish as not to agree with you.
Wow.
Honestly.

@Splendide - McCain's approach to war?
[Read the article: The other 18 million]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Frankly, I think McCain's approach to the war is better than either Clinton's or Obama's.
Well, McCain's approach is exactly the same as Bush's. And McCain also didn't know there was actually a difference between Shiites and Sunnis.
So if you like how Bush has been, then McCain is your guy. Me, I've had enough.
