Headline is a sexist bunch of crap.

Honestly. A lot of men act very stupidly. But the active component isn't the gender - it's the stupidity.

What is obviously behind the rise in bad driving among women, is the dark lining of success in female empowerment: now that women are more free, more women will unfortunately choose to do stupid things.

I fully and gladly support equality for women. I freely admit that men and women are far from equal yet. I am just acknowledging reality. There are no chromosomally-predestined angels or demons here. We are all just humans.

So to imply that stupid driving is **in any way** based on gender is absolutely ridiculous. And *literally* sexist. Stupid choices - or smart ones - are not caused or influenced by gender. At all. Ever. Period.

I did not wear crocs. Not once.

And no one I saw wearing them was able to pull them off, stylewise.

Which made how hip they thought they were being even funnier to me. I don't typically laugh at other people's fashions. But those were the dumbest frickin shoes I think I've ever seen.

Original article: Roe v. choice

Teaser page to this story has same text 2x

Both paragraphs start with "McCorvey's conversion is old news: Back in the mid- '90s, McCovey, then working at an abortion clinic...." .

Please note that I'm talking about the teaser page from the "broadsheet" section. Not the main article page.

Thought y'all should know.

Original article: Sarah Palin, one tough mama

OK, Terkoy - what have the kids or Michelle done wrong?

Here's your open space. Respond to me, and show all the criticism that should be leveled at the Obama kids and/or Michelle Obama that the MSM has been avoiding.

On the Palin side:

Palin Kids (really Bristol, the only one who's actually been criticized):

Teen pregnancy?

Dated a pothead?

Palin Parents:

Used kids as a prop?

Bankrupted a city as mayor?

Tried to ban library books?

Used official power to go after a relative's ex-spouse?

Possibly used official power to get a house built?

Claimed to be against "Bridge to nowhere", but in fact supported it until Congress nixed it, then took the same amount of money for other things?

So - how have the Obamas been this bad either publicly or privately? I wait with bated breath.

Thank you.

Treating Ruth Madoff like a victim of sexism is surreal. She is at best an accessory after the fact, if not an actual actual accomplice.

For Steinem to launch such a claim without researching (or perhaps caring) about the actual situation with the Madoff sons does not speak well for her.

Original article: This Modern World

Natty-J: progressive taxes work.

Here's the issue, I think - most single payer supporters simply want free healthcare for all as an entitlement. The analysis stops there for them - they get free healthcare, and they read an article about how great it works in Sweden.

And Britain. And Germany. And France. And Spain, Japan, Norway, Portugal, Australia...you get the picture.

It works for them, their populations are very happy with it - and they would not trade their systems for ours in a million years.

When 25% of the population pays 85% of the taxes, this is what happens: you get a system that works. Progressive taxation enables an investment in infrastructure and in the poor and middle class that keeps a nation growing, thriving and moving forward.

Depending on the poor and middle class to fund investments in the poor and middle class - can't you already see how that's not going to work as well? They don't have the money to spare to do it, in the first place.

The real problem with our economy is not the taxation on the top 25% - its that we have stopped making and producing things in this country. Those jobs go overseas, that money goes overseas, and we are left depending more on advertisting and service industry - which is not enough.

So easily solved with a tie-breaker rule

Such that the NY state senate has to be *more* than 50% of one party, in order to switch for that party. If it's a dead tie, it remains with the current party leaders.

That, and NY State Senate is also supposed to have a Lt. Governor as tie-breaker, right? Why wasn't one appointed?

Ah well...I feel bad for NY voters, but at least its entertaining from here.

Original article: Going down in the downturn

I've worked at McDonald's. Sex work can at least allow more dignity.

Not to mention pay you might actually be able to live on.

Can't someone give this column to TheBob?

That's the most on-point, insightful, and genuine discussion-creating writing I've seen in these pages so far.

I don't know who Glenallen Walken is, but this week's column seems particularly phoned in. I grant that these are tough issues to approach. But they even more so need genuine approaching - not just "Liberals do it too".

I could get that just by swapping the nouns around, you know?

Come on Glenallen. You're anonymous. You can take advantage of this to actually not spout the party line like a good soldier. You can actually analyze conservatism and the GOP from the inside, and speak your real mind, without anybody knowing.
