Anorexia & Bulimia vs. Overweight & Obese

Ugh

Oh look, another reason for women to be hypervigilant about their weight. You know, it's ridiculous. So a girl gains 5 lbs, who cares? Would you rather have her bulimic or anorexic? This is pathetic really, and overhyped, the idea that every ounce a woman puts on is a nail in her coffin. I call bullshit. I'm sick of it.

-- Julilla

Hey, what do you think affects more people in this country, too much weight, or too little? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the overweight. It's a more pressing problem, and Broadsheet is just perpetuating the problem of it being much more socially acceptable to be overweight than underweight.

Original article: Older mothers rock

So we shouldn't allow people to have children who could be dying soon?

Taht's the problem, isn't it? That we think older parents will die soon, so their kids won't have parents. Otherwise, older parents may be better than extremely young ones (before age 25, i would say) because young parents may not be mature enough to have children. Older parents are probably more wise and calm and understanding than young, judgmental, energetic ones.

In any case, if it's death that's the problem, let's also not let diabetic parents have children, parents who are HIV-positive, parents who are overweight or obese, parents at risk of cancer, parents who have heart disease, parents who have diseases like lupus or MS. In fact, anything that decreases life expectancy significantly. Like smoking, or obesity.

I imagine most of us would not support that kind of policy.

But most importnantly, no one cared when men with any of the above conditions, including old or very old age, had children (see Donald Trump, Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger, etc.), but now that it's women, suddenly it's a problem.

Yeah, isn't distributing prescription meds to a person to whom they were not prescribed a crime?

How tragic.

Uniform Code of Military Justice

I think a lot of this is quite relevant to the discussion:

1) Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Homeland Security, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

10 U.S.C.A. § 888

2) Any person subject to this chapter who--

(1) strikes his superior commissioned officer or draws or lifts up any weapon or offers any violence against him while he is in the execution of his office; or

(2) willfully disobeys a lawful command of his superior commissioned officer;

shall be punished, if the offense is committed in time of war, by death or such other punishment as a court-martial may direct, and if the offense is committed at any other time, by such punishment, other than death, as a court-martial may direct.

10 U.S.C.A. § 890

3) Any person subject to this chapter who--

(1) violates or fails to obey any lawful general order or regulation;

(2) having knowledge of any other lawful order issued by a member of the armed forces, which it is his duty to obey, fails to obey the order; or

(3) is derelict in the performance of his duties;

shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

10 U.S.C.A. § 892

4) Any commissioned officer, cadet, or midshipman who is convicted of conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

10 U.S.C.A. § 933

So, i'm not sure how anyone can disobey and order, or criticize the government, as long as they are in the military. Or do anything "unbecoming an officer and and gentleman" (are women except then? would having one's period be unbecoming a gentleman?).

If they were going to rig the election, would they tell you?

People, don't be so naive. If Bush & Co. were creating some sort of super-evil double secret plan to nationally rig electronic voting machines in their favor, do you think that they would go on TV and actually tell you, because they're just too stupid, or they can't contain their glee?

Either

- they're evil masterminds who have pulled off some of the worst stuff in decades behind everyone's back (in which case, they wouldn't go around telling you suspicious things like "we're gonna win no matter what") or

- they're incompetent, slightly crazed morons high on their own delusions (in which case, they're not smart enough to coordinate such a nefarious national election rigging scheme").

If you were going to steal the election, would you go around telling everyone?

I think the answer is no, but some of you may respond by saying "yes, they are THAT stupid." well, if they are THAT stupid, fear not, they will be discovered. Because if they're stupid enough to divulge their master plan through the lips of the president at a televised news conference, you'd think they've made some other "minor" oversights in other parts of their plan.

EC as prescription med

You make a great point about EC not being a prescription med anymore. Although i wonder what kind of dead/undead zombie status it has as long as it's behind the pharmacist's counter and you must show proof of age to get it.

However, the pill is still a prescription med. So giving up a pack of pills to send to someone to be used as EC is still a crime.

Yes, i support EC and choice as much as anyone can. I just hope no one gets arrested for doing this noble thing. I hope they have lawyers and know how to get around these stupid laws.

Size 0 women

No, but Mimi apparently is...she needs to get a life rather than continuing talking to her Size 0 friends, go out and meet real women

Yes, because Size 0 women aren't actually "real women," right? No one who is size 0 could possibly be funny or intelligent or interesting or a "real woman" -- you have to be at least a size 8 to be a "real" woman. "Real women have curves" and all that. Size 0 women are the subject of everyone's scorn and jealousy. :( Probably as much as really fat people are the subjects of everyone's scorn too.

Stop hating on the thin. It makes us sad. We have to cry in our salads. : -(
