Islamic Fascists

P.S. LeCastor, I'm not sure what is so strange about the term "Islamic Fascists"

One of the many definitions of fascism: "Fascism is also typified by totalitarian attempts to impose state control over all aspects of life: political, social, cultural, and economic."

If that doesn't describe those who would create a world that grovels at the feet of Allah and lives by the Koran, then what does? And these people ARE Islamic, aren't they?

You should pick your criticisms a little more carefully.

-- AndyCrobosk

I'm actually being quite careful.

Main Entry: fas·cism

Pronunciation: 'fa-"shi-z&m also 'fa-"si-

Function: noun

Etymology: Italian fascismo, from fascio bundle, fasces, group, from Latin fascis bundle & fasces fasces

1 often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

2 : a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control

Now, correct me if i am wrong, but Al-Qaeda and friends do not "exalt nation or race," and do not stand for centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader. In fact, they are more islamo-anarchists than islamo-fascists. Al Qaeda stands against many of the most dictatorial governments in the middle east, like Saudi Arabia. Al Qaeda sows chaos and wants to bring governments down, not build them up. Their goals have nothing to do with establishing dictatorial states -- they are mostly interested in kicking the US out of the middle east.

"single sex is the way"

hey, maybe instead of separating by gender, we can separate by how well-behaved, or how smart, or how wealthy the children (and their families) are? If it's a question of being well-behaved, segregate on that instead of using the imperfect proxy of gender.

Cary Wants Closeness So Much He Does Not See How Screwed Up This Is

Vomiting? Calling to check if everyone is in bed? what if you want to go out for a drink, or you travel, or you have a business trip?! I agree, if you don't like it now, then you're not gonna like it when it becomes even more intense if/when you get married and have kids.

The Purported Goals of Al Qaeda

Do you agree or not that the Islamo-fascists are out to either kill us or turn us all into Muslims under their dominion? Do you agree or not that they will not stop at anything? Yes or no? Make up your mind or get the hell out of everyone else's way. If you love them so much why don't you do a Cat Stevens and move to Iran?

-- No Name Given

No. I don't agree. Al Qaeda has real political goals and opinions, most of which revolve around getting the US & Co. out of the Middle East. They're not just crazed devils who want to kill for the sake of killing.

Testimony of J. T. Caruso, Acting Assistant Director, CounterTerrorism Division, FBI

Before the Subcommittee on International Operations and Terrorism, Committee on Foreign Relations, United States Senate

"Al-Qaeda International"

"Al-Qaeda opposed the United States for several reasons. First, the United States was regarded as an "infidel" because it was not governed in a manner consistent with the group's extremist interpretation of Islam. Second, the United States was viewed as providing essential support for other "infidel" governments and institutions, particularly the governments of Saudi Arabia and Egypt, the nation of Israel and the United Nations organization, which were regarded as enemies of the group. Third, Al-Qaeda opposed the involvement of the United States armed forces in the Gulf War in 1991 and in Operation Restore Hope in Somalia in 1992 and 1993, which were viewed by Al-Qaeda as pretextual preparations for an American occupation of Islamic countries. In particular, Al-Qaeda opposed the continued presence of American military forces in Saudi Arabia (and elsewhere on the Saudi Arabian peninsula) following the Gulf War. Fourth, Al-Qaeda opposed the United States Government because of the arrest, conviction and imprisonment of persons belonging to Al-Qaeda or its affiliated terrorist groups or with whom it worked, including Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, who was convicted in the first World Trade Center bombing."

"Al Qaeda's avowed goal is to "unite all Muslims and establish a government which follows the rule of the Caliphs," according to a U.S. government fact sheet. Under the caliphs, the successors of Mohammed, Islam expanded from Arabia through Persia, the Middle East and North Africa.

Al Qaeda seeks to overthrow nearly all Muslim governments because bin Laden regards them as corrupted by the West. It also seeks the "liberation" of Islam's three holiest places -- Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem. "

Female-Only Teams for Summer Associate MBA Class at Lehman

Want flex-time?

Get a job wherever LeCastor claims to work. She claims to be making about 3k/week as a summer intern and still has time to post on Salon all freaking day. As they say, good job...if you can get it.

(She doesn't get it.)

-- Got it.

Oh read more carefully. Yeah, i'm a summer intern AT A BANK. I don't make the $2400/week that people make at LAW FIRMS.

Anyhoo, my favorite part of the article was that Lehman Brothers was instituting a program for their summer associate MBA class in which females would be in female-only teams because "women are more likely to show 'raw talent' with no men around." I found this patronizing and sounding like segregation (see the segregated schools thread that's popular today). So if we have gender-separated schools, maybe Lehman thinks we can have gender-separated banks.

As for me, it's Friday in August. If you think i have a lot of free time, half of our lawyers aren't here today. And they have permanent jobs that pay much more than I am paid. But we're not bankers, and it's August.
