Colorado resident

As a Colorado resident, I hope your prediction is true. Although I wonder if we aren't just experiencing the ebb and flow of politics. After the far right swing of the past decade, it makes sense that the left would get the next swing. This seems especially fitting with all the talk of "swing" states.

On a different note, it is still shocking to me the propoganda fundamentalists believe about Barack Obama. It isn't about facts at all. It's about what they want to believe or have to believe in order to keep their narrow world view safe. Fear is their prison.

Original article: A big gay Mormon wedding

Heartening

I found this article very heartening. It is easy to get wrapped up in the politics of things. But this story proves that, in its purest form, the issue is not about politics, it is about love, and the evolution of love if people are willing to grow. In a free society, as consenting responsible adults, we should all be able to love who we choose.

In my opinion the father stepped into his greatness in that moment when he was able to love and accept his son and celebrate his marriage. This seems a victory in itself. Hopefully, it will also be a victory for the opposition to Prop. 8.

A gift of memory

Anne Lamott has given Molly Ivins back to us for just a little while with her vivid memories and wonderful writing.

May we all have someone who remembers us this well after we're gone.

Original article: How Sarah Palin blew it

The Symbolic Moment

Thank you for this post, Ms. Walsh. I thought she blew it, too, especially at what you identified as a "symbolic" moment. Instead of responding to Joe Biden with compassion and something genuine, like her own struggles over having a special needs child, she became, yet again, a "talking head."

She really did blow it and, at least in my mind, secured her reputation as a lightweight.

Original article: The Sarah Palin pity party

I have to admit

I have to admit that I was edging my way toward feeling sorry for Sarah Palin but this article has been the smelling-salts I needed to bring me back around to reality.

My assessment of SP of late is of a person who has jumped into the deep end of the pool who doesn't know how to swim. She is in way over her head, flailing and fighting to survive. Therein lies the danger for compassionate people. Unfortunately, not even her party seems concerned enough to throw her a life perserver.

But I think it's important to remember that she is the one that chose to jump into the deep end of the pool, she was not thrown. This is what Ms. Traister's article has helped me remember.

Thanks!
