  • Drug Out & Shot

Hawkins & Melody and others make some good points - without any "whoah" factor (big names, new facts), the story is just another reminder that something folks want to be clean isn't.

I have that feeling every time I slap my alarm clock and see the pile of books on my night stand that I keep meaning to shelve. They haven't fallen over and scared the cat or brained me in my sleep, so they're Not That Big A Problem (Yet).

I, personally, want the ne'er-do-wells brought forth and shamed for sullying "The American Pastime," not just because they're doing a disservice to the game's history, but also because I think baseball is one of the worst ways to mow a lawn known to man.

My gung-ho NHL zealotry has been set aside, at least until the conference finals, knowing King's general malaise towards the league. John Buccigross and E.J. Hradek and Craig Burnside (if you'll pardon my pimping the competition) have provided an interim fix. King's column is a part of my daily routine, and covers stuff in an interesting way that I normally wouldn't be exposed to out of pure heaps of apathy and disinterest, so I treat those times when he does speak to stuff I'm passionate about as a treat.

  • Hearing About Hockey

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

ievans: I'm just tired of hearing about how much the NHL is ignored. Trust me, we hockey fans know. We hear it every night on ESPN.

You must get a better brew of ESPN than I do, because if I'm unfortunate to do something like blow my nose, I miss the NHL coverage in between endless replays of layups and discussions draft strategy in and around shots of a bunch of guys standing in a field and occasionally running.

The recent push to try and legitimatize the Arena Football League is just one more way ESPN, the resident 800lb gorilla of sports coverage, has moved to further marginalize the NFL, and I think it's the same fifty rabid fans nipping at their heels that keep John Buccigross & Barry Melrose on their payroll at all.

King, please either talk about the NHL, or ignore it altogether. The discussion of ignoring it is just salt in our wounds.

  • The Stones

Having the stones to dis The Stones... well, for my [currency redacted], you guys probably are better than The Stones.

Are there any MP3s out there of your stuff? I have a really, really low opinion of the Rolling Bones, so you guys might just get some independent validation for your opinion.

I think an investigative examination on the nature of failure could be interesting, if monumentally depressing.

  • The Race Thing

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm wondering about the racial aspect to the Bonds Brouhaha after reading the SFWeekly column.

When The Great Home Run Chase was taking place, people seemed to be pulling for both Big Mac and Slammin' Sammy in roughly equal proportions.

The people today decrying Bonds' passing of Hank Aaron are all, by definition, supporting Hammerin' Hank (who, last time I checked, was still black).

Is there a racial bias against Barry because he's black, or is a subtle racial bias being exacerbated by the fact that he comes across as an unrepentant, unapologetic asshole?

  • Robot Love

[Read the article: "Love and Sex With Robots"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This isn't new, as there are plenty of videos in the offing by places like Blowfish, and communities of folks with this particular kink (cf: the "clunkies" community on LiveJournal, etc)

As a guy who runs races in a bright orange camo Utilikilt... (http://media.myfoxtampabay.com/galleries/DraftDayDash/images/DSCN4451.jpg)

I really have nothing more to add to the conversation than that, really. I'm shallow and visually-appreciative of the toned backsides of the women who run faster than I do. Keeping a certain someone in sight may or may not be a viable pace mechanism...

  • Playing with house money

... I believe that's the phrase Rich Eisen of NFL Network used on the recap.

"Hey, we've just benefited from a questionable call, let's go all in."

Not saying that going for it wasn't the right thing to do (it was), but propitiating the Football Gods by going for it in the wake of benefiting from an officiating blunder is the right thing to do, both tactically, strategically, and morally.

Thank you for the keen eye; it's nice to know that tossing out a name-check to "The Football Gods" elicits the proper connotation among us typists and chatterers.

That said, I'm wondering if my 2-0 Bills can, in fact, be "circling the wagons" when they're leading the division, and looking none too shabby about it.

  • 35-3 becomes 41-38

[Read the article: Red Sox comeback: Greatest ever? ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

As a former Buffalo resident, I am contractually obligated to reference the Bills' comeback from 32 down in the AFC Playoffs against the Houston Oilers, with a backup quarterback at the helm. NFL playoffs are, by design, "lose and go home," so it was also an elimination scenario, though it was an earlier playoff round.

I won't fatuously claim to have been at the game; because of a local TV blackout, I was playing badminton at my local rec center, and heard the winning kick in OT on the radio as I drove home.
