Wasn't that a Columbo episode?
[Read the article: A denial that admits too much?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"We said she was killed, Senator... nobody said she was strangled... and the only way somone would know that, Senator..."
Isn't it funny how every time a Republican is caught with his pants down (literally as often as figuratively, these days) we get some concern troll (anonymous, of course) telling us how we shouldn't "lower ourselves" to the levels of the Repukes and their millionaire media mouthpieces?
No, of course not, we should remain pure, unsullied... and go back to losing elections.
Fuck that, and fuck anyone who thinks it's anything but appropriate -- and necessary -- to tell the truth about the lying, hypocritical scum who have been stealing our country from us; stealing our wealth; destroying our security; turning us against one another; killing our citizens, our family and friends, and ourselves; and trying to drag us all back to the middle ages. Enough was more than enough years ago.

"the" economy isn't OUR economy
[Read the article: Business is great, people are terrific]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Remember when it depended on what the meaning of the word "is" was?
Now it depends what the meaning of the word "the" is -- as in "the" economy.
When G-dub says "THE economy," he means "OUR economy" -- and if you're reading this, you're probably not one of "our" people -- the people who own, not the people who work. See, this is what he means when he talks about an "ownership society" -- it's the society of owners, the 2% who, among them, own over 60% of the wealth of the country: the shares of corporations, the real estate, the corporate and government bonds and all the other debt. And for them, the economy is not "mixed," it's not "so-so" -- it's doing just fine (well. except for the ones who own a bit too much of that collateralized-mortgage debt, but that's only temporary, you'll see; there'll be a bailout for them, paid for by... wait for it... the other 98%; the rest of us who work for a living, and don't just own).
Oh, and as for that other 98%... well, to G-dub and his krew, we're just not the ones who count now, are we?
Does that help?

G-d, Flying Spaghetti Monster, Disco Ball, etc, forgive me
[Read the article: Torture may have led to Pearl murder suspect's death]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]but I am really having a hard time feeling anything above Kelvin zero sympathy for this piece of work. He was involved in the horrific, brutal, and literally medieval murder of someone specifically for (a) being a Westerner of Jewish extraction and (b) trying to get a story in which he was offering to provide a voice to the West for the psychotic religious zealots who perpetrated 9/11. In short, he was willing to let these shits send us a message directly -- which of course they did, it just wasn't in the form Mr Pearl had anticipated.
So for this character, and anyone else who had anything to do with this betrayal, I'm more than just comfortable with this outcome. I hope the pain was long and deep, before he finally expired.
Yeah, I'm an evil person. Next?
And King o Chill, I'm sure we'd all be very happy to consider whatever evidence you can provide for your assertions; you should know that this community isn't exactly likely to go to the mat to defend the US corporatist / military / "intelligence" power structure if they're accused of skullduggery. But since you've provided not iota one so far, you'll have to forgive some of us if we conclude that you're just another conspiracist fruitcake. Perhaps you'd be happier playing over at 911truth.org?

wingnut projection, part 1,259
[Read the article: Pickens weasels out on Swift Boat challenge]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There's been a meme running around the internets for a few years now -- I got no clue when / where / by whom it was originated, but I keep seeing Orcinus' David Neiwert referred to in connection with it -- that if you want to know what the Rethugs are up to, look at what they accuse Democrats and liberals of doing, because the Rethugs are masters of the art of projection.
This is just another textbook case of their changing the rules in mid-game, moving the goalposts, etcetc. -- another "the surge is working;" Florida recount; Gov Davis recall; the current push to apportion Cali's electoral college votes, instead of winner-take-all; etcetcetc
Sure would be nice if we could actually rely on the MSM to report the truth about this -- or, for that matter, to publicize it at all.
Would also be nice to see Kerry deal strongly with it, instead of knucking under, as I fear he might. I know a lot of people would disagree with me on this, but on this at least, I think too little too late is still better than nothing at all.

just another oxymoron
[Read the article: Did Bush ask Scott McClellan to lie -- or didn't he?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I used to collect oxymorons -- sets of words that go together idiomatically, but in literal terms, represent impossible combinations, "contradictions in terms." The classic illustrative examples are "jumbo shrimp" and "military intelligence" (though I'd imagine that latter one would be impolitic in Bush/Cheney's America); "creation science" is an instance of a more recent coinage.
"Honest Republicans" is an excellent example -- though it doesn't quite hit the level of my very favorite, "Justice Clarence Thomas."
