You know you've spent just a bit too much time on the 'net when you read a line in alexgl's excellent recitation from Plato (7:42pm Wed april 18) as:

"“Now the recollection of former trolls had disenchanted him of ambition”

...just what it is that's supposed to be the kid's member, that kinda indicates just how high a degree of ludicrous this hits.

"As for Sterne's take on the whole thing? He reportedly has the photo hanging on his bedroom wall."

Well, sure -- because after all, second only perhaps to money, celebrity is the ultimate value.

I'd be willing to bet that at least 30% of the public, offered front-page fame in exchange for getting non-fatally shot, would go for the deal -- and more than 30% among people under 25. Any takers?

  • Mounting Reagan

" 'I believe that every human life at every phase is unique, is beautiful, is a child of a loving God, period,' he said. And there was no doubt that he truly meant it."

Really? So he supports policies of governmental support for free, equal, high-quality education and health care? International trade that is not "free" but fair? Progressive taxation? Minimum wages indexed for inflation, and support for collective bargaining in employment? A legal and regulatory environment that aggressively supports human rights, employee rights, consumer rights, civil rights... for everyone? Defense protocols that work effectively and efficiently, and don't make enemies of people and nations that would be friends? I must have missed that part...

"But that alone was not enough to mount the Reagan pedestal."

Well of course not -- when did Ronald Ray-gun ever believe anything remotely like "every human life is a child of a loving God?" (Unless, perhaps, in the sense of: "...so God will take care of them and we don't have to.")

The country is in the fix we're in because too many people can't distinguish rhetoric from reality. Let's not add to that.

...one of the "brains" (along with the execrable Yoo) behind the torture memo, and the decisions of the BushCabal to not only permit but foster the torture of "suspects" both by the military and by the CIA?

If my memory is correct on this, wouldn't it therefore be perfectly appropriate to help our AG regain his memory by a little judicious -- and publicly televised -- water-boarding?

Heck, we could even make it a fundraising telethon, to help reduce the Republican deficit. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd pay big bux to see that particular bit of ironic justice played out.

Or am I just being mean?

    Charlie

Really, now, what a silly question -- haven't you been reading your PowerLine, your Freepers, your Li'lGreenFootballs?

Because he single-handedly brought down the commies, broke the back of inflation, gave hard-working Murkins the biggest gosh-darned tax cut of all time -- thereby returning morning to America!

And if you don't think that over 50% of the voting public actually believes all of the above and then some, then you haven't been paying attention at all.

The media are not now, and have not for over a decade, been telling the truth about anything political. If we do not take back the media -- or create our own -- we'll just have to keep fighting the same battles over, and over, and over, world without end.
