[Read the article: Facebook finally lets users turn off privacy-invading ads]

I guess the reason that I haven't been able to muster up much outrage about this is that it simply hasn't affected me one iota. I'm a college student; I use Facebook on a daily if not hourly basis.

You may change your tune when a prospective employer finds out you ordered The Communist Manifesto through Amazon or a job-rival lets it spill out that you ordered a great ski trip through Orbitz at the same time you had reported sick for work.

How many of youse "Brain Lovers" are really just brain-eating zombies?! Not to denigrate Zombie-Americans, of course, but Brains-without-Borders and the Zombie contingent are kind of mutually exclusive. :-)

  • Instant Buffy?

[Read the article: Now Netflix tries for streaming movies on TV]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This would be an interesting way to catch up on TV series, even more flexible than what I already do to order Netflix DVDs without even the 2 day wait. If it comes with a DVD player also (I don't care about HD or BluRay at this point), even better to get rid of another device in my living room.

Then again, if AppleTV really gets Video-On-Demand rental service on Macworld Expo Steve-note Day (Jan 15), that could also be a compelling. Alas, Battlestar Galactica--an NBC Universal production--is no longer available from iTunes. But Buffy is a FOX DVD product and Fox just penned the deal with Apple.

and will be interested how its sales fare. Too pricey for me, but in the ballpark for those wating 3-lb Sony TZs (2099-3699$ vs Apple's 1799$ [or 3098$ with solid state drive]). However, how large is the ultraportable market, and can Apple grow it? Or will this be, as I've already read someone call it, the "Cube" of 2008.

  • Sad indeed

[Read the article: Edwards bows out, but stays on message on the way]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If accurate, the Edwards campaign is suspended but he has not withdrawn. He keeps his current delegates and can continue to accumulate them, although unlikely he'll get much more.

I already put my vote in for him by absentee ballot two weeks before the CA primary. My 2004 choice, Dean, also pulled out just before the CA primary and after I submitted my absentee ballot.

    CLERIC! CAST RESURRECT! :-)

(Not the first to say it, won't be the last, but it is that type of gallows humor that made sessions of D&D some of the most fun from junior high through grad school.)

  • Profit still stains my brain

[Read the article: The lost "Profit"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Basically everyone was a villian with Profit the most expert and astute at it. It was Wall Street and Dallas kicked up an order of magnitude.

It always amused me when I next saw Adrian Pasdar as the miracle seeker on Mysterious Ways.

I was on a mailing list for YEARS waiting for an announcement of a DVD release for Profit and snagged it as soon as it came out.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I feel like the only two things we're waiting for are: who is the final cylon, and will they get to earth. I'm worried the final cylon, as with the other four, will be a capricious choice and while probably initially shocking/exciting/provoking, it will end up being a big "WTF?"

BTW, are the final 5 supposed to be one-off models with no resurrection possible?

The only emotional hit for me so far this season was watching Cally die. That hit me hard.

  • Anyone else go to the "live premier"?

[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Last Thursday, Ira et al. did a "live" (M, C, and EDT; delayed for PDT) broadcast via Fantom Events at various movie theaters around the country where he did an intro to Season 2 of the TV show, some clips, and on-stage interviews and Q&A with Chris Wilcha, the director of the TV show, and a short bit with David Rakoff (I guess David Sedaris was in France). Alas, where I watched (AMC Ontario Mills 30), the sound was completely fucked up. There were maybe 40-50 people in the theater but I'm really bad as guestimating these things.

Just for me, I found the TV show more miss-than-hit versus the radio show. Except for the animated bits, I would almost rather listen and just ignore the visuals. I agree with the writer above who finds the TV show just a little too precious. If there is Sarah Vowell, maybe I'll sign-up for Showtime. :-)

  • agree with all of the above

[Read the article: My husband doesn't want to have sex with me]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Being in on the dark side may have precipitated not enjoying anything--including sex--before the antidepressants. certainly antidepressants can reduce sexual interest and libido. there are medical workups from testing of testosterone and other hormone levels to changing antidepressants. there may be organic causes and not just psychological ones.

then again, my sister's husband wanted to stop being intimate after he got his mistress.....

  • All over it

[Read the article: The 3G iPhone: Faster, cheaper, GPS. $199 on July 11]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I (mostly) gladly shelled out the full price for the 8 Gb iPhone just under a year ago. Sure it was an ego-toy but in so many ways it has proven its worth from visual voicemail to checking my checking account to looking up a movie theater to navigating using cell triangulation.

The new medical applications look fascinating! And if the games are as good as they look, well heck $9.99 wouldn't be too much to pay compared to $20-50 for a Nintendo DS or PSP game.

I used .Mac when it was free but balked when they started charging for it, especially since Apple-as-web/email host has always been iffy. With the new push for MobileMe, I *really hope* they get their act together to keep my Macs, Windows boxen, and iPhone all synced.

    But: still no cut-and-paste? :-(

  • Agree

[Read the article: Hop aboard my Smart car taxi!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

When I first saw a Smart Car on a trip to Germany, I thought they were way cool. Then I saw that *most* cars in Germany were only slightly bigger than that, held 4 passengers (or at least 2 passengers and luggage/groceries) and as diesels were getting close to 50 MPG!

Then again, if say 10-20% of cars tooling around San Francisco were Smart Cars instead of baby SUVs, wouldn't that be a vast improvement?
