As long as

As long as Republicans control the media and the congress(don't EVEN tell me they don't), the public will be misinformed(lied to). Campaign finance reform and FORCED media diversity is the only cure for this problem. Anything else will be disengenious at best and decietful at worst. What am I saying? Congress exists to decieve and misinform the public. That's why we need an independent media. It will take quite a few election cycles to drive the criminals from congress. Hopefully we can hold out against them long enough to see to it that that happens. No thanks to Brian Williams. BTW, have to gone to his blog and read the drivel from his 'fans'? Sickening.

Independent DOJ???

The 'independent DOJ' myth ended with Reno. Now, no matter who is president, the DOJ is just an extension of the WH political office. Obama does not want that to change and neither does Holder. I predict that no investigaions nor prosecutions will ever take place in the US. If another country takes up prosecutions, look for Obama and Holder to obstruct their investigaions and they may withdraw from the Geneva Conventions. Looks like Texas may secede from the union and the US from the planet.

That is not what he is saying!!!

I am FURIOUS over Glenn's mischaracterizations of what Meacham is actually saying!!! He is NOT saying that presidents and vice presidents are above the law! That is ludicrious! What he is saying is that REPUBLICAN presidents and vice presidents are above the law. That is very different from my reading of Glenns post. Obama is definately NOT above the law. Bush, on the other hand, was and still is. Notice the difference? Please correct your article, Glenn. Then maybe we can have an intelligent conversation.

Original article: Torture and truthiness

Don't investigate,

Analyze. We need to find out just how great this torture stuff really is. Let's get it all out in the open so we can see just how much we learned and how much we benefitted by torturing detainees in U.S. custody. Don't investigate, analyze.

Schumer?

You mean the same genius that gave us Mukasey(aka Gonzo Jr.)? If Schumer says up, the answer must be down. He's really not the guy to point to for good judgement.

It's a trick

The treacherous old bastard is just looking to stir up trouble in Democrat land. Talk about a BLUE DOG!!! I wouldn't trust him. He's just too looney.

Brian Ross is a pedophile

At least that's what my sources say.

I'm hoping

Obama really wanted to lose this case. I also hoping by taking these powers to the Supreme Court, he can drive a stake through the Unitary Executive theory once and for all so that no future president can become King of America. I'm hoping that's what he's doing......

Original article: Let war crimes be bygones

God, what a disgusting human being you are!

Why not let drug gang members go free then? Why not let detainees in U.S. custody go free? Why enforce any law? You, Mr. Keillor, are ready to reinact this nightmare again? Do you really think that if the torturers get off scott free that this will not happen again? What about deterence? What about accountability? You have proven yourself an enemy of America, Garri. The rule of law is our credo. You would have us abandon this for good train service? Once again, you are a disgusting human being and you deserve no place in this country.

The law is..

What the president says it is. As he said last night, torture was a 'mistake' not a crime.

From what I can tell

You wrote

"If we want to ensure that in the future duplicitous leaders do not trick us into wars, abrogate the Constitution, flout our laws and traditions, create secret prisons, and torture detainees, the only way is to look unflinchingly at what actually happened."

From what I can tell, that is not what we want to ensure. There are millions of Americans activly working to ensure that this actually becomes the standard for American behavior. Face it, Gary, we have lost. The ultra right-wing propaganda that is poured over the towel covered faces of America by NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, FOX, CNBC, and Clear Channel Radio has turned what was once a peace loving nation into a nation of barbarians bent on destruction and conquest. Our president and our congress are even now actively plotting to disregard the constitution and the law of the land. If it is up to them(and it is no matter what you say), we will never know the truth and we will punish no one save for the two slobs that got caught in the act. This country is beyond saving. We are all beyond redemption at this point.

Breeding

My belief is that we should let the team owners actually breed atheletes. You know, like horses. Engineer them in a lab to make them bigger, faster, and more submissive. I mean that would really sell tickets, yes? An 11 foot tall center for the Mavs, a 500lb lineman for the 'Boys, a promising 18 year old with a 123 mph fast ball for the Rangers. That's the idea! And in the meantime, make all the little leaguers pop steroids because as we've always been told, it's not whether you win or lose, it's how much money you make doing it that really counts. That would definately make it easier for me to pay for the new Cowboy stadium with my tax dollars while our schools are crumbling.

Original article: Bad mommy? Bad society!

Amen

What do you expect from a society that revers and plans to build a half a billion dollar 'library' for a war criminal?

I Reagan had known

that it would be Republicans that did the torturing, I'm sure he would have made an exception for them. He was just that kind of great guy.

Keep these people handy

Torture has just taken a break until the next Republican administration comes into power. So keep these people handy, they'll be up to their eyeballs in American citizens to torture when Sister Sarah gets the nod. God, it'll be good to have some good old fashioned bone breakin' and skin peelin' back in the jails, won't it?
