This thread duped me into going over to Townhall to read Kathleen Parker's Palin screed and who did I find there? Remember your girlfriend from the Santana/Woodstock clip? Well, it was her daughter. And what was she wearing? It was a tight REAGAN/BUSH t-shirt and it was for sale! This younger generation simply disgusts me.

    And it worked.

IMHO it didn't work. My wife had CBS on so I watched. Obama did his best to let McCain seem presidential, refusing to take advantage of the many openings McCain gave him (vets, torture, etc.) and agreeing with him far too many times. Obama obviously has a very hard time being aggressive. But it still didn't work. McCain came across as an unattractive eye-rolling madman. 40-22 for Obama (the rest tie).

After it was over, Couric (whom I had seen only on youtubes from this site), immediately spun the debate against McCain, claiming that his awesome "foreign policy experience" was supposed to have given him a big advantage, but Obama gave as good as he got, etc., etc. I was surprised since Obama seemed to me so wimpy. I guess I'm just too used to debates on UT! Maybe McCain is doomed.

  • So, is this what happened?

[Read the article: Bailout follows the 10 normal principles for how our government functions]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Everyone knew that Paulsen's bailout was bad. And for Republicans the Coca-Cola didn't even have the cocaine left in (Shooter's capital gains tax cut, that is). So, they decided that many of them would vote no, believing that it would still pass and their rich friends would still get the dough. But the economy would be even more FUBAR and the Republicans would have created their little pre-October surprise, being able to blame the Democrats which McCain could run on.

So far so good, but why did the Democrats call their bluff? Were they actually hip to what was going on (doesn't seem like them)? Was it "principled resentment" of CEO robbery? Why did so many Dems vote no?

  • OK, Let's take a poll

[Read the article: The simultaneous rejection of the bailout and a corrupt ruling class]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Question for poll:

Will the bailout our delightful Congress passes between now and the election be better or worse than the one just defeated? And since we'll all have different opinions, let's have the question become after the bailout to come passes will Glenn think it's better or worse? Option "just the same" is no fun.

But please correct the specific Paulson bailout plan Henry Pearlstein favors. We're getting our Pearlsteins and Paulsons confused.

    Sarah Palin mopped the floor...

The good thing is that she learned to recite certain talking points in Sedona. Thus, she gets to stay on the ticket and go down in flames with McCain. Everyone benefits.

Just contemplate what we will learn — years or decades from now — the Bush administration was really doing...

Just contemplate our learning it when the Main Core list is called in for questioning and selection.

I will be voting for the fastest resolution to this hell. I will be voting for McCain.

You did realize good ole shooter is voting for the Obaminator correct?

I have commented more than once on Shooter's claim to intend to vote for Obama. Since it contradicts everything else he says I still don't believe it. I believe he takes this stand because a) trolls like to confuse and b) that way he can continue to recite Republican talking points and not have to defend McCain.

But I do believe you. You are either incurably optimistic, thinking things can't get much worse, or an old-style dialectician who believes that things getting worse is the path to their betterment later on. I recommend Bill Maher's latest movie, Religulous, because that is the appropriate realm for such ideas.

You think you'd be justified in assassinating Bush, right?

You know, my friend, we lefties are just luftmenchen. whereas you authoritarians are real men of action. When it comes to killing and torture we really can't compare.

But you do realize that McCain might well fumble the nuclear football, don't you?

Great question for Bob Schieffer, but you should have Glenn request that he ask it. Your odds would be so much better: 80 bazillion to 1 Brazilian!

What you'd find shocking, if you'd ever care to lift the wool from your eyes, is that YOU are very likely a conservative at heart.

Welcome to the board, Kidney. I believe what you'd find shocking is that Glenn regularly writes for a magazine called "The American Conservative." What is often featured on this board is how utterly lacking in perspective and nuance people who think they are "conservatives" are. Again, thanks for showing up.

[Read the article: Colin Powell condemns the ugliness of the Republican Party]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Debates about inspectors and WMD always make me laugh (or is it cry). Bush and his Powellbots did not invade Iraq because they thought it was strong (possessed WMD, etc.), but because they knew it was weak. Iraq had just undergone a decade of crippling American-led sanctions. Thus, it was the logical first domino for the "transformation of the Middle East." Powell knew the plan and the deception. Hey, I think it's good that some of these guys are finally having second thoughts. But it's true (as has been stated), a reduced sentence for Powell from the Hague is all he should be able to hope for.

If we attacked Middle Eastern countries for possession of WMD, Israel would be in ashes.

  • The McCain supporters are in full retreat for one reason

[Read the article: What is happening to GOP electoral tactics?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    and one reason only.

Shooter has invaded Washington and brought the full force of his personal Obama campaign with him. Rethugs don't stand a chance in hell.
