Giving the Blue Dogs THE BOOT
[Read the article: Let's give "Blue Dogs" the boot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Red_gti2000
you keep saying "Unless a court has convicted someone NO CRIME HAS BEEN COMMITTED."
this is patently preposterous. i guess then what happened on 9/11 wasn't a crime.
it's a well known fact that justice in this country is not equal. with rare exceptions the wealthy and the politically well-connected get the best deals (compare what didn't happen to Lewis (Scooter ) Libby to what happened to Don Siegelman). Both were convicted of crimes. Only Siegelman was sent to prison, His crime was being an elected Democrat in Alabama which Karl Rove didn't like. Libby outed a covert operative of the CIA because Bush and Cheney asked him to do it and he has never spent one minute in jail. The US Justice Department has been seriously compromised, thanks to Bush and Rove. A report by USJD staff just released this past week verifies that. The federal bench has been riddled with right wing ideologues thanks to Bush's appointments. Bush, Addington and Cheney have trashed the Constitution. But since they have done that, hey, maybe your definition of what a crime is holds up after all.

Omlettes it is!
[Read the article: No, let sleeping "Blue Dogs" lie]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Who's afraid of Obama, Kirk? He puts his pants on one leg at a time. If he sees that there is a real focus of energy to try to pull this country back from oblivion he'll be cool with it. The Republicans had that energy and that opportunity and they truly fucked it up. The Democrats will probably as well, given the chance.
What's being offered here is a serious attempt at righting wrongs. Progressives have an opportunity to actually become the conscience of the party and demand the restoration of the Constitution. Is there a danger that it can get out of hand? Yes. But we're in big trouble already and dithering and waiting around just won't cut it. Kilgore wants the status quo. Be timid little neutered Democrats like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and we'll be in Iraq for ten more years and find out the full effects of the new FISA bill and a Constitution with a big fucking hole in it. Is there a risk in kicking ass and taking names? Yes. But there's an even bigger one in not. Besides, the last time I looked Newt Gingrich and Tom "the Hammer" Delay were still Republican. We can lean on the enablers of the mess we're in without becoming the crypto-fascists they emulate.

BOOTIE TIME ...................
[Read the article: Let's give "Blue Dogs" the boot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]it's interesting how many straw dogs we've seen on this thread. the really persistent ones like that trekkie guy, i forget his name, never even come close to a sensible discussion. i think Glenn really touched a nerve with this topic and it's freaking them out. good! that means we're on to something.
there is a danger in taking on people who are "in the party", yes, but as we also know there also is a danger in letting people who have no sense of what principles are run around claiming to be Democrats. the Neocons destroyed any meaning to the word Conservative. and, by the way, being a Conservative isn't all bad. real Conservatives actually understand the Constitution and defend it. Jane Hamsher had a very civil dialog with Bruce Fein recently. they found common cause over the need to punish members of the Bush Administration who are patently criminal. Americans may be Conservatives or Liberals or Moderates or Independents or mugwamps. That doesn't mean that they can't come together and seek the truth and expect consequences for what has been happening to our country. Booting the Blue Dogs is a tactic that requires courage. Boy, is that something that Democrats can use a little more of! If Democrats started respecting the rule of law, actually defending the Constitution they would win big in so called Red States and Blue States.
Now, Glenn has spelled out a tactic that freaks out the right people. We've seen a lot of them here, pissing and moaning and crying wolf and acting like chicken little. IF you really believe he's got a good idea going, support it with your hard earned cash.Support the Money Bomb.
Support the Strange Bedfellows Coalition with some money. You don't have to support Barak Obama, and what we're doing will get his attention too. It might even rein in some of his inclinations to move to the right. Being an internet jockey isn't enough. Do something that will help now. Otherwise we're just pissing away an opportunity whose time has come.
