Four simple words...
[Read the article: Queer behavior]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]... It just doesn't work.
After going through "reparative therapy" in the mid-1980's I can report that it is an immoral and abusive process that does nothing for the client but reinforce any guilt that haunts them. Thank God that nice Paula Zahn showed a truly messed up practitioner of this twisted cult.

Why misuse the text?
[Read the article: Apocalypse soon]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The primary problem with the whole rapture polemic, as it is reported in both conservative and liberal media, is a profound ignorance of critical biblical scholarship. If you think that you can make sense out of the bible without studying it critically, you are mistaken. The problem with liberal media is that they don't generally think there's anything worth mining in the scriptures - so it can be dismissed with ironic ease. The problem with conservative media is that they don't consider that the scriptures can be read with anything but willful disregard for twenty centuries of critical study. Either approach misuses the text.
The bible doesn't talk about the rapture. It isn't in the book. The Revelation does not contain the narrative of LaHaye or any of the rest of the "Left Behind" mafia. The Revelation isn't about current events - it never was and it never will be. The Revelation is a book about the nascent Christian community at a particular time in its history, that's all.
The bible is full of wisdom. But to believe that you can pick out end-time data from it cafeteria style is to misuse it. Better for us to use our hearts and minds to create a better world for everyone. That's honoring the bible's wisdom.
