Scrubs will return...
[Read the article: Finale wrap-up: "Scrubs"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]P. James, NBC has said that Scrubs will start up mid-season next year, like it did this year. While at first that choice annoyed me, I have to admit that, once it started up, I liked the much more dense programming schedule, with fewer rerun weeks and sometimes two new eps a night.
I have to say that it's too bad abortion is such an untouchable issue on TV, because if ANYONE in a sitcom would make total character sense to have an abortion, it would be Perry and Jordan. They'd probably make it funny somehow too.
Also, possibly my favorite thing about Scrubs this year was the escalating "Dr. Acula" jokes. The few minutes of footage shown in the first half of the finale was priceless.

NHL?
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]King, I know you watch hockey, particularly in the playoffs. We're almost to the semifinals and you haven't mentioned the Cup Playoffs once as near as I can tell except in the context of anthem-booing. I know hockey fans are now less numerous than NASCAR or pro bass fishing fans, but throw us a bone, please!

Thanks Cary!
[Read the article: I've had it!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Your advice made my whole day, pretty much.

On the subject of hitting pitchers...
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]One might take note of the face that Carlos Zambrano threw 7 1/3 no-hit innings and hit a home run yesterday. Maybe his "bad week" is over.
And Elizabeth, I can't speak to King's attractiveness level, but he's no more featured picture-wise than any of the columnists (see Cary Tennis, for example). I'm assuming you're talking about his caricature, because there are no photos of him on the site.

"Greenies"
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Supposedly Grimsley said that it was common for clubhouses to have coffee pots labelled "leaded" and "unleaded" -- the former mixed with "greenies" (i.e., amphetamines), the latter not.
Unlike steroids, the use of meth is, from what I understand, a storied tradition in baseball. Many of the old-time heroes that Bonds is beating unfairly with his juiced-up arms were themselves tweaking for most of their careers. And meth is a performance enhancing drug -- it supplies energy and focuses your concentration.

Not to sound like a liberal weenie, but...
[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The Allenby Bridge doesn't connect Jordan and Israel. It connects Jordan and the West Bank. Admittedly, the Jordan Valley is entirely controlled at the moment by the Israeli military, so I imagine that crossing that border felt like crossing into Israel. But still, even the Israeli government doesn't consider that part of the West Bank to be formally part of the State of Israel. The Golan Heights and East Jerusalem, two areas the Israelis captured in war and that other countries don't recognize as part of Israel, have been formally annexed to the Israeli state by Israeli law; the rest of the West Bank has not.
I believe that there was a period during the 90s when the Allenby Bridge was actually under the control of the Palestinian Authority. In fact, I seem to recall that when the violence flared up in region in 2000, the area around Jehrico was remarkably quiet, in part because the PA didn't want to lose control of its one border crossing into Jordan. Apparently Israel has long retaken control of it, though.

2-3-2
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think that this series will really show how the NBA finals' unique 2-3-2 home court series affects things. If the Heat win their third home game in a row, it might give them unstoppable momentum. If they lose game 5, they might be toast since they'd need to take 2 in Dallas, whereas under a 2-2-1-1-1 series they'd have one more chance at home.

Not to add to the letter-writer's panic...
[Read the article: Everybody's tiptoeing around my dad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But this letter immediately made me think of the case of Phil Merrill, the prominent publisher who killed himself this month. I'd been thinking about him because I went to college with his daughter and met him once.
Merrill apparently had open-heart surgery about a year ago and had been depressed ever since. People who knew him were very shocked by the transformation and subsequent suicide.
While surely family dynamics play a role in this situation, I think there is something to be said for the idea that something physical or chemical can happen either because of the surgery or the drugs you take afterwards. Examining family dynamics through therapy is always a good idea, but in this case careful scrutiny of the drugs Dad is on is also in order.
