How interesting that I happened on this article as I was, you guessed it, pumping at work...
I've been back to work for a month now and am slowly getting into the groove of pumping at work! I am fortunate enough to have my own office, work in academia, and have colleagues who are understanding and supportive. All in all, not a bad environment.
Since it isn't always feasible to say "I have to go pump for 15-minutes", I try to plan accordingly. In fact, I'm still trying to work out a pumping schedule and teaching commitments for tomorrow.
Again, thanks for the support! Women should not have to chose between breastfeeding their babies and going back to work.
Hello there, upstate New Yorker here, I'm from Rochester. While you all make reasonable arguments, I would submit that I just want someone who will do the damn job and take it seriously.
Here in upstate New York, we're hurting. We're losing jobs and population at an alarming rate. Our infrastructure is crumbling. Our politicians, democrat and republican, are only concerned with protecting their little fiefdoms and consolidating their own power, to the detriment of the people they are supposed to represent. (There are few standouts like the excellent Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and New York Assemblyman David Koon)
I don't care if Governor Paterson appoints Caroline Kennedy or a monkey, I just want someone who will care enough about New York to bring about real change....change that is desperately needed. Look, we have a lot of potential up here. Ever see an autumn in upstate New York? There is nothing like it. We touch two Great Lakes. We have a wide range of outstanding colleges and universities: University of Rochester, Syracuse University, Cornell, and the excellent SUNY system. And don't forget about the Finger Lakes which are magnificent.
A Senate seat is not a toy, it's not a game, it's not something to do when you're bored. Does Caroline have what it takes to get something done? I honestly don't know. Does she deserve a chance when so much is on the line?
