The joy of fungal rashes & diabetes
[Read the article: Busting out]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Ok, I'll fess up I've had a fungal rash (scary music) but not under my breasts. No not there either, sickos. Anyway, what I found to work GREAT and cheaply was Head & Shoulders shampoo, or the generic version of H&S.
It kills fungus like mad. Just wash with it like you would soap, like on a puff or whatever, then rinse off. Don't scrub your skin with it though ;) Abrasions would be bad too. In my experience, it was gone in a week, maybe a bit less. Could you hold off on the running until it heals up maybe? Or cut back a bit?
I've never heard that a fungal rash = diabetes. Huh. I know slow healing can mean diabetes though, that's a different ball of wax than if you get a fungal rash, and continue to irritate it weekly or daily. It'd be hard to heal up in the best cases under that regimen. Hmmm. Ok, I did some Googling and I see what you're looking at it probably, but I would guess that the problem in your case is sweaty skin x rubbing bra = rash.
The easiest way to tell if you have diabetes is to have a fasting blood glucose test done, IMHO. I'm speaking as someone who came up with a "diabetic" number in April this year: 126 fasting, which is the edge of diabetic. If I repeat at that number, I'd be officially diagnosed as diabetic. Yikes. Anyway, if you have health insurance, get that done as a simple lab blood test. If you don't have insurance, there are more than likely some clinics that would run the test low-cost or free... you could find one by calling your area hospitals, or diabetic treatment centers/specialists.
I'm not saying you couldn't be PRE-diabetic, though I'd guess not if you are running 6-7 miles a week. But only your doc (or NP) can tell you for sure. Signs of diabetes in full force are suddenly losing weight for no reason, huge unquenchable thirst, peeing all the time, having dramatic mood swings or feeling like you'd pass out when your blood sugar drops... tingling in your hands or feet... feeling "hung over" from too much sugar... eyesight blurring after high carb meals.
If you think you might be, GET CHECKED OUT! :) Do not screw around with diabetes, trust me. The sooner you get diagnosed or warned you might develop it and get told how you might head it off at the pass, the better!
So buy some Head & Shoulders and make an appointment for some bloodwork :) Take care!

Yeah, can we please have some more Edwards articles?
[Read the article: This Modern World]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Or more than just Hillary vs. Obama, and then Huckabee Christian this & that?
For the past 30 days, searching the Archives, I get for number of results:
Rudy Giuliani 49
Fred Thompson 52
Ron Paul 69
John Edwards 76
John McCain 79
Mitt Romney 90
Mike Huckabee 101
Barack Obama 132
Hillary Clinton 204
The funny thing is that currently Edwards is polling ahead of Huckabee and Romney (and Giuliani) -- from the Diageo/Hotline Poll conducted by Financial Dynamics. Jan. 10-12, 2008. N=803 registered voters nationwide. MoE ± 3.5. -- off http://www.pollingreport.com/wh08gen.htm
Odd that there is not much front page coverage of Edwards here on Salon. Does he not get the ad hits? Is he too boring to write about? What's behind it, I wonder?
Interestingly also, if you look through those recent polls, Edwards name is not mentioned very much at all (usually voters get the options of Other/Neither/Unsure instead.)
It's really striking how the media picks a few candidates to cover and that's all most people consider... and then the chute narrows down dramatically fast and we get the front runners handed to us a year prior?
It seems to me that candidates who might have had a fighting chance if their ideas were given more coverage instead get prematurely dumped based on not being the golden anointed one.

Aw damn...
[Read the article: Remembering Heath Ledger]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I couldn't get other the news today either. Really, a terrible thing to have him die: he was a great actor and from what I've read, a really nice guy too.
I think though that his death was an accident; my local paper said this:
~~~
The actor's personal strife was accompanied by professional anxiety. He said in a November interview that "Dark Knight" and "I'm Not There" took a toll. "Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night," Ledger told The New York Times. "I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going." He said he took two Ambien pills, which only worked for an hour.
~~~
If in November he was double-dosing Ambien to cover only 1 hour, I can imagine he accidentally overdosed trying to sleep before his massage appointment that afternoon. Why book a massage at your apartment if you are planning on killing yourself? And he was found face-down at the foot of his bed, which doesn't sound like suicide to me.
The NYPD held a press conference recently today, saying they found, and sent off for drug residue testing, a rolled-up $20 bill found next to his bed. I hope that this wasn't what it seems... but in the end, I'm just sure the world lost a real talent. I hope he wasn't a lost soul too.

Thank you Salon.
[Read the article: When principles aren't enough]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Glad to see Edwards as a top story here... wish I saw more before, but hey, I'm hoping that he does continue just so his message gets out more, and perhaps mute the Obama/Clinton "Clash of the Titans" blockbuster a bit.
And yeah, I think he could do a lot of good as VP. If that's what he gets offered, I think he should definitely go for it. Though I think Obama is more likely to offer it (if Obama wins, that is.)
