It goes both ways

Many years ago, I knew this homely, overweight, but nice, girl who used to drink at a dive in North Beach. She would buy a guy drinks and then offer him a ride home. Then she would offer to help him upstairs. When he had undressed and flopped drunkenly into his bed, she would already be in there naked ... and it was a "what the hell moment."

Was she a predator? Among our circle, score was kept. She only got me twice. Others succumbed more than that. If I ran into one of them, thirty years later, I might still razz him about it.

One of the saddest thing about this whole discussion is that by making these drunken women victims, it enables them to avoid looking at the effects and repercussions of their own drinking. Shit happens when you get drunk. Male or female.

As Ogden Nash once wrote:

"Candy's dandy,

But liquor's quicker."

Most of the vegans I've known

have been borderline personality disorder types.

Just an observation. No judgements, of course.

Wait, I can think of one exception!

Get. The fuck. Out. Now.

We alkies are really good at finding helpers.

We have a life project which can be difficult and daunting sometimes. There are hardships and setbacks, and terrible things happen, so we need helpers. This requires an amount of information management almost impossible to gauge, spanning networks of friends, work (if we are so lucky), family, and romantic attachments. There is no time left over for any other human being.

We want people to know the things we want them to know. And we don't want them to know the things we don't want them to know. It requires tremendous effort. But it is the only way we can keep the life project on track.

The life project of course is to drink as much booze and do as many drugs as is humanly possible without dying, or scaring away our helpers, thereby interrupting the life project.

You are just a helper. Please understand that. If you go, he will find another.

Save yourself. Go to Al-Anon if you need some real support.

The closet is not imposed upon them - they LOVE it

These assholes LIKE the closet. They like the fact they and their fucked-up little no-girlz-allowed club are putting one over on us, all the while fellating power and sucking up to their corporate masters who only care about their little power-bottoms doing their bidding. None, not one, of them could care less about the "social values" they espouse - those are for getting votes only.

This is not about oppression, or even hypocrisy, as the interview suggests: this is about a very real kink that the gay community refuses to take responsibility for.

Even Dan Savage has stated that Larry Craig is a straight oppressor, since he is straight-acting. This is total bullshit. Larry Craig is gay, along with every other Republican politician you can name. And they all should be outed so that they lose the "base" once and for all.

Original article: Stop "Hillary-care" now!

generic=$10; brand-name=$690

I had to pick up some anti-nausea medication for a friend the other night. The pharmacy only had one pill of the generic brand. The price for generic was a $10 co-pay. The pharmacist checked the price on the name-brand drug. $690, unclear how much her insurance would cover.

I read somewhere that a lot of drug-dealers (of the illegal variety) have retired and gone into legit (using the term loosely) pharma ... same morals, same ethics, same principles ... as any lowlife in the illicit drug-trade food-chain.

Don't even get me started on "insurance."

And the Repubes are their messenger boys.

An article on fast food that does not include Jack-In-The-Box

has no credibility whatsoever.

Where are the bacon-cheddar potato wedges, the chicken fajita-pita, the real ice cream milkshakes?

Shame shame shame!

@mhellman - did not realized J-i-t-B didn't cover

the continental United States.

Thank you.

Too bad, because it is the best FF chain, IMO.

Racial attitudes come from parents, not cartoons

I am SO sick of the stupid PC madness and idiocy and hyper-sensitivity about media images and portrayals of race/gender/what-the-fuck-ever.

I loved Dumbo as a child. The crows? Funny. They helped Dumbo, remember?

My attitudes about race were instilled by my father. I take pride in knowing I have instilled the same true values in my sons, who are grown now. How successful was I in doing so? Well, #1 son runs a hip-hop record label, his rappers shake my hand (and don't let go) and tell me how great he is. And they mean it. My boys have never judged a person by the color of his/her skin.

Worry about things that matter.

It's like banning "Huckleberry Finn" for use of the n-word. It is a document of the time, the culture, the era.

I really get irritated when I feel compelled to sound like Rush Limbaugh on this stuff.

Grow some thicker skin, and balls while you are at it.

I think it is a complimentary cover

I mean, they call her the Wise Latina ... it's not racist, it's a compliment.

It's just a cartoon. Jeeezus!!!

This hyper-sensitivity on the left must end.

Worry about some shit that matters.

Original article: I Like to Watch

Well, HBO made a series filled with light and it was too weird for people

I am referring to "John From Cincinnati" - possibly the best tv series of all time - but it only lasted one season.

People don't want light. They want dark. Light has ramifications. Dark allows them to keep doing whatever it is they are doing, and provides structure, context, and justification.

I hope we get some more light soon (Are you listening David Milch?). Not holding my breath.

Are you saying that Lafayette is alive?

I hope so! We were certain that the body in the car at the end of the season was his and were not happy about the loss of our favorite character!

Anybody check the bathroom stalls at the airport?

I mean, he IS a republican, for Christ's sake ... they all have to wander off the reservation once in a while to slake their thirst for the forbidden fruit.

Maybe he's doing the LarryCraig Decathalon ... ten towns in ten days.

I see now that TrueBlue

beat me to it with the "he IS a republican after all" line ... very good.

great minds and all that.
