Colonial rule replaced by another kind of colonizing by the english speaking elite

Dynastic royalty and monarchy is not dead in many secular or non secular democracies around the world. India and Pakistan replaced their colonial masters with another kind of dynastic rule. In the 60 years since independence from the British Raj, India and Pakistan has been ruled by a western educated elite that paid scant attention to rampant poverty, illiteracy and housing needs of millions of their subjects.

The abuses of dynastic reality is never in the news. Prime Minister Nehru in India was succeeded in time by his daughter Indira Gandhi, who after her assassination was succeeded by her son Rajiv Gandhi who was an airline pilot and a reluctant politician. Nontheless, now Sonia Gandhi, the widow of the assassinated Rajiv is now head of the Congress Party that suffered a disastrous defeat in the Gujerat elections that kept the Hindu right wing in power. Rajiv's and Sonia's son and daughter are both elected polticians who will carry the Gandhi dynasty into perpetuity.

And so it went with the Bhutto dynasty. Whether in execution, exile, head of state and assassination of the Bhuttos, they have maintained center stage in Pakistani politics in between marshall law and miltary rule. Again, Pakistan remains poor, with an illiteracy rate, especially among girls and women, that keeps millions under an english speaking elite that is at once corrupt and self aggrandizing.

Democracy has failed in both countries for the millions who eke out a bare living under the harshest of circumstances while the elite lead high flying lives with corruption money to burn. It is time that both countries open the political process for more representations from a cross section of their societies. Royalty is dead. Let's rebury that monster.

May Benazir rest in peace

@scorpio

Let's hope that George II has killed all chances of Jeb Bush and his son from all politics in the US, although I don't rule them out entirely. Hillary Clinton has peaked and now appears on a slippery slope run up to the White House. Chelsea is not much of a threat, at least for now. Anti-dynastic rule should be a campaign talking point for all political candidates.

Again, the US has exported its own brand of democracy around the world. May the wo/man with the most money win. Is it any wonder that there is so much corruption in world governments.

The other dead are just a number

So what are the names of the other people who were killed? What happened to the other people in the SUV? Who was the suicide bomber?

Non Hillary voters UNITE to crap on mainstream media

I am one who will not vote for Hillary Clinton - what did the Clintons do to deserve this from a life long Democrat? Remember, don't ask don't tell? the shameless treatment of Lani Guineer and Joycelene Elders to appease the right? end welfare as we know it? the signing of NAFTA, BAFTA? and the right leaning agenda goes on and on, like signing the communications bill that consolidated the media and completely eradicated fairness in reporting. Hasn't that come back to bite their sorry arses. They willingly paved the way for George II to unleash a reign of fascism full throttle.

So I found myself rooting for a Hillary win last night and took great pleasure in watching Matthews squirm, trying to talk his way out of the dung pit he had dug. I found a new respect for Brokaw as he tried to caution the media against influencing the vote.

Here is my hope. That the American people turn on the pundits and send them to gas bag hell and learn to separate the wheat from the chaff. Hillary and others should make the media an issue as they fight their way to the White House.

The first woman

Here's the harsh reality of women heads of state. Indira Gandhi was the first woman Prime Minister of India, only because she was the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru who was the first Prime Minister of India. She was neither a feminist, nor a progressive who changed nothing. Margaret Thatcher, we all know, was a white male in drag who promoted white male supremacy. Bundernaike of Sri Lanka was elected after her husband got assassinated as did Corizan Aquino of the Phillipines. Benazir Bhutto capitalized on her family name and was taken out ironically by forces who want the US out of Pakistan. Except for Thatcher, the rest were hitched to dynastic rule. And now we have Hillary capitalizing on the Clinton legacy, which is as hoaky as a three dollar bill.

Don't ask don't tell

Welfare as we know it

NAFTA and BAFTA

Shameless turn arounds on Lani Guineer and Joycelene Elders

Communications bill that further corporatized the media

Paving the way for George II to unleash cruel neocon policies and practices around the world.

Why are we not asking these very valid questions of her?

She does not have my vote, but I am glad she won NH just to shut up the pundits who were prematurely crowning Obama who has a lot of talking to do, beyond his feel good rhetoric.

Why aren't we shutting this twit up?

Since when did CP get credentials in family psychiatry? And why is she on Salon? Joan Walsh, are you reading this? Please get this twit off Salon's pages. ASAP.

I am not going to vote for Hillary, but CP's rant is simply diabolical and gutterish.

Media, fat, dumb and happy

I almost always never watch the news on TV or listen to the radio, EVEN NPR. The media has been bought, the journalists are being paid hugely. Why should they bother with democracy when fascism suits their pocketbooks? Hell, many of their careers have been made bashing the Clintons. Hillary should take the media on as an issue in her run to the White House. I was not going to vote for Hillary, but after her mauling by the media, I WILL VOTE FOR HER.
