Many moderate republicans have fled the GOP as the christian right has set their hateful anti-chooice, anti-gay, anti-immigration, anti-human agenda to run the grand old party.

Much like George the first took on Dan Rather and blasted the so-called misdefined "liberal" media, Rudy can pummel Dobson and his ilk and get some political mileage out of it.

There is a perceived strength that the media relentlessly promotes about the heft of yahoos like Robertson, Dobson, et al. Rudy can make that a centerpiece of his campaign and I will wager that disgruntled republicans will come out in droves to vote in the primaries. Why, even some Democrats will cross over and vote republican in the primaries just to defang and crush the head of the hateful christian right cobra.

McCain has succumbed to the right (why am I at all surprised?). Look what THAT has done for John. Come on Rudy!!! Be yourself. Take them on. Show them your true grit and your nasty self.

There needs to be a major grassroots movement to not only throw the republicans out of Congress but also demrepublicans like Diane Feinstein and Chuck Schumer. They more often than not have voted lockstep with the republicans. Now they are going to confirm Mukasey. Who says we don't torture in America when we have outsourced this repugnant practice to countries who don't have laws to prevent the abomination. What is happening to this country? Where is the opposition? Where are lawmakers of conscience? Why are we sitting back and allowing the Third Reich to flourish in the US? Is anyone listening?

Huckabee is a flash in the pan and will disappear from the primaries in less than three months. With no money, no organization and no real plan for the country, he is as likely to get the republican nomination as bozo on the way to the moon. Must be a slow day in newsrooms when Uckabee makes news headlines. Is he the new media darling? And will they catapult him to power like they did with dumb and dumber George Bush II? What this country needs is a candidate who takes on the media and puts in place a plan for secular democracy without the dictates of corporate news dissemination.

Sorry that Mike Nichols now belongs to the class of Hollywood propagandists on US nationalism. Where are the brave directors of the ilk of Francis Ford Coppola (Apocalypse Now) or Phillip Noyce (The Quiet American). That Hollywood is the propaganda machine of US imperialism is a given.

It is in the best interests of a capitalist society to keep the gaze away from the shenanigans of industries and right wing politics to a huge preoccupation with celebrity culture.

Is it any wonder that we now have to pay for drinking water, live in massively polluted cities, live on the mercies of the American Medical Association and the Pharmaceuticals, that the rich, lazy media should be investigating for the good of the citizenry in the first place.

It is completely disgusting that an untalented, bratty, self destructive socialite like Paris Hilton (what really is her claim to fame?) makes headline news around the world while close to half a million Iraqi women, men and children have lost their lives in the US occupation, or how about unnecessary deaths of Americans due to lack of health care. The travails of a visibly troubled Britney Spears takes up more news time than the daily killings of Palestinians by US interests, or if that is a hard pill to swallow, then how really the US sabotages voter turn outs that would make this society more equitable.

Bring on the Kool-aid because the media is never going to raise the bar for a well informed society. Dumbing down of America has become a guilt free pasttime.

Dynastic royalty and monarchy is not dead in many secular or non secular democracies around the world. India and Pakistan replaced their colonial masters with another kind of dynastic rule. In the 60 years since independence from the British Raj, India and Pakistan has been ruled by a western educated elite that paid scant attention to rampant poverty, illiteracy and housing needs of millions of their subjects.

The abuses of dynastic reality is never in the news. Prime Minister Nehru in India was succeeded in time by his daughter Indira Gandhi, who after her assassination was succeeded by her son Rajiv Gandhi who was an airline pilot and a reluctant politician. Nontheless, now Sonia Gandhi, the widow of the assassinated Rajiv is now head of the Congress Party that suffered a disastrous defeat in the Gujerat elections that kept the Hindu right wing in power. Rajiv's and Sonia's son and daughter are both elected polticians who will carry the Gandhi dynasty into perpetuity.

And so it went with the Bhutto dynasty. Whether in execution, exile, head of state and assassination of the Bhuttos, they have maintained center stage in Pakistani politics in between marshall law and miltary rule. Again, Pakistan remains poor, with an illiteracy rate, especially among girls and women, that keeps millions under an english speaking elite that is at once corrupt and self aggrandizing.

Democracy has failed in both countries for the millions who eke out a bare living under the harshest of circumstances while the elite lead high flying lives with corruption money to burn. It is time that both countries open the political process for more representations from a cross section of their societies. Royalty is dead. Let's rebury that monster.
