  • Media silence is deafening

[Read the article: Why did Bush commute Libby's sentence?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Mainstream media still remains in the hip pocket of the republican right. What has been so disheartening in over a decade is the steady decline of accountability of too many wrong doings by the heterosexual, white, GOP political operatives. Bush, Cheney, Powell and their henchmen lied, cheated and manipulated this country into an aggressive, illegal war. The Democrats will not impeach the usurper and his regent Cheney. The Justice department lied, cheated and manipulated the dismissal of competent attorneys with the blame clearly at the door of the Oval office. The Democrats will not impeach the interloper who deems himself too high above the law. Bush pardons a convicted liar Scooter Libby and the Democrats will still not impeach the snake who continues to spit in their faces. And the mainstream media is too beholden to the republican right to not practice true journalism and high standards to reporting, because their pockets are lined with unmerited dollars. Is it any wonder that the bragging rights of US high morality are being laughed at by a bewildered world outside its borders. Make no mistake. The decline of the US empire is nigh at hand.

  • I disagree

[Read the article: Cindy Sheehan's wrong turn]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Sorry Joan, but you are dead wrong about Sheehan's stand. The spineless democrats are too much in cahoots with their republican colleagues and most all of them drink from the same trough of corporate largesse and corruption in politics which should be of the people, by the people and for the people. If Nancy Pelosi is dumbing down her party to not stand up against special interests and high powered lobbying, we should just throw in the towel and declare democracy dead. Cheney and Bush both must be impeached for the cold blooded murders of American troops and Iraqi people all for the greed of oil money. IMPEACH.

  • Bumper Sticker

[Read the article: War Room contest: Pick the Democrats' bumper sticker]

Expose the Right Wing Conspiracy. Unelect Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats.

  • The Koran and the Bible can both be used as weapons for good AND bad

    [Read the article: Divine politics]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The Bible and Christianity was central, we can argue, for the Civil Rights movement. I hasten to add that all of the Civil Rights' non-violence agenda was appropriated and skillfully used from the Mahatma Gandhi's non-violent movement for independence from brutal British colonialism. If followers are determined to argue about the literal veracity of the word of god in the Koran and the Bible, they have ample ammunition to unleash a reign of terror and violence against the non-believers. Both holey books are full of the wrath of god. Both books can also be used for good - feed the poor, do onto others and so forth. But fanatics in ALL religions have an addiction toward the rightness of their ways and a gluttony toward violence to prove their dedication to a man made deity. Shame on all the houses for damning the "others" in our societies.

  • Would the dean have attacked Bush in a similar fashion

[Read the article: Ahmadinejad, big man on campus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The Republicans and Bush in particular have legitimized homophobia and make gay bashing a central theme for political power. Would the Dean at Columbia University have the same guts to trash Bush and his cohorts as he did Ahmedanijad? Oh, it is so heroic to show such disdain for an invited guest when you have a hall full of people who support the Israeli apartheid against the Palestinians. The Dean is no hero in my book. Were he as critical of American foreign policy and the demonization of Iran that has spawned the likes of Ahmedanijad, although I do not find him as repulsive as George Bush.

  • Rebecca Traister needs to revisit feminism

[Read the article: The 9/11 backlash against women]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Just because you are born female, does NOT make you a feminist. Why would Faludi mention Condoleeza, Harriet and Karen in her book? Aren't they but enablers of the highly toxic George who has a huge, gluttonous penchant for cowboy bravery while hiding behind the lost lives of young Americans in Iraq? And, by the way Rebecca, Bill Clinton was the President who appointed more qualified women to important positions in his cabinet and his administration than George. This is YOUR oversight that you need to rectify. Have you forgotten Donna Shalala, Janet Reno, Madeleine Albright, and so many more? Faludi's is a voice is extremely essential in these very difficult times, a book that needs to be promoted, not denigrated by a hatchet attempt at silencing her.

  • It is time to defang the christian right cobra

[Read the article: James Dobson's Rudy problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The neo-con and the hateful christian right agenda of the Republican party has wrought havoc on the American people. The hateful anti-women, anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-immigrant, anti-black, anti-environmental policies are slowly waking up doped up American people from their corporate media induced binge. Let Jimmy Dobson and his theocrats prop up a third party candidate who will be sure to lose and bring down the Republicans as well. Now all we need is some Democrats with spine to turn this country into a constitution abiding of the people, for the people and by the people.
