It's because Obama does nor support mining reform
[Read the article: How much will white racism hurt Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Mining is a huge cultural element in Appalachia and the Rust Belt. And Obama's insincere pro-business stance troubles people in this neck of the woods.
Obama said he does not support mining reform legislation that passed the House of Representatives and would work to find a compromise that is more friendly to the mining industry.
"The legislation that has been proposed places a significant burden on the mining industry and could have a significant impact on jobs (in rural Nevada) given the difficulties the industry is already facing in maintaining its operations," Obama said during a conference call with Nevada reporters discussing his platform for rural Nevada.
He claimed this right before the Nevada primary.
For those who don't know, the reform in question, sponsored by Nick Rahall (D-W.V.), would update the notorious Mining Law of 1872, which allows mining companies to pay little to no royalties to mine on public land. These are the same mining companies that exploit workers in dangerous conditions and remove entire mountain tops in that part of the country.
Yeah, that's the "significant burden on the mining industry" Obama's lamenting -- forcing them to pay royalties for use of public land like everyone else.
I get that candidates have to pander, but this is just egregious.
Apparently Barack Obama has decided that to win the Democratic party nomination, you have to appeal to the mining industry AND environmentalists. So he supports 80% by 2050 AND liquified coal. And Clinton's the panderer?

I think the left are breaking ranks with Obama anyway
[Read the article: A new low in Clinton bashing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sure Clinton gets raked over the coals. It is part of the game.
But wait until the Obama supporters learn an "alternative" view of the man. Barack's been treated with kid gloves until now and still he;s losing momentum.
Here's an interesting and provacative read for all of you who think Obama is some sort of "new" politican:

Hey Joan, I hope you take it to that pompous a-hole Olberman
[Read the article: A new low in Clinton bashing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That smug shill is doing more to turn off independents from the Democratic party and Barack Obama that he realizes.
How could anyone want to be in a club that has Keith Olberman as a member?

Barack Obama -- the teflon candidate
[Read the article: Does Obama have a lobbyist problem too?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If you think this latest hypocrisy by Obama will stick, you haven't been paying attention to the campaign. Journalists, by and large, are right in the Obama target demographic and they will continue to cover for the Golden Boy and treat him with kid gloves. Those who are now pointing out the serious issues with Obama and his potential prsidency have been angrily shouted down by the vanguard and called racist (among other things).
If/when Obama is in the White House we will once again have a complicit press corps and a candidate with zero accountability. The job of the press is to bear wintness, not to breathlessly swoon over the new cool kid on the block.

McCain + Female Running Mate = White House for Republicans
[Read the article: Blow-back from Clinton supporters hurting Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I believe that many of Hillary's female and blue collar supporters have come over to the Democratic party solely because of her.
I am lifelong Democrat. I'll hold my nose and vote for Obama even though I see through a lot of his snake oil. Heck, I will even tell others to do so. But there are a lot of moderate women -- some who never voted and some who broke ranks with the Republican party (even inside their own marriage) -- who simply won't go for Obama. They are not turncoats, they are just moderates who were supporting a woman that inspired them and who brought them into our party. Don't for a second think that Obama will win them over with his legion of shrill college students and holier-than-thou eggheads. In my neck of the woods I know, and admire, a lot of these "tough old bird" working class ladies who positively dig Clinton. They also don't trust some silvery tongued stanger who was foisted upon them and now wants to sit down with all the enemy dictators who want to destroy us. I also know a lot of overalls and Budweiser dudes who admire the woman's tencity and good old fashioned work ethic. Around here they measure friends if they'll "run through a wall" for you. Hillary's got that "run though a wall" quality. And they are not stupid, they know Obama and Hillary have the same basic platforms. I think they like Obama better and think he's cooler, but they just think Clinton will work harder for them and actually get some shit done.
These people don't self-identify as Democrats or liberal. They are not the base of the Democratic party, and if their candidate is out of it, I don't think they feel any allegiance or responsibility toward the Democrats. In some ways, the Obama-nuts on this site are right: they are Republicans, kind of. But we need them if we think we're a big tent party and we want to win the election.
