I get it, but consider this: For the sale of argument, assume Obama gets the nomination.

In the general, Barack Obama will get 90% of African-American votes nationally. Any candiate getting 90% of ANY group is truly remarkable. If he can continue to deliver virtually all of a huge group like African-Americans, he could pull it out with that group and the lefty-left bullseye of educated, liberal urban whites and students.

I know the asthetics of that formula don;t look great and the lopsidedness is troubling sociologically but, mathematically he might be able get it done without achieveing any great gains among working class whites. Did any of the candidates that you mention domibate a large group to the extent that Obama does with African Americans? His appeal to that group is so great and such a statistical outlier that if the percentages in that group hold up against McCain (and of course they will) it could be enough to tip the scales.

  • Clinton fits the model for a third party candidate

I doublt she'll do it, but she's politically in the middle of Obama and McCain abd would grab support from both. Obama would be smart to offer her the veep slot or a high-ranking semi-autonomous cabinet position (i.e. Secretary of State) if gets the nod from the Supers on June 3.

  • Obama's supporters are his biggest hinderance

Of course Barack Obama is not so bad, but what is it about him that attracts such snide and vitriolic support? Clinton cannot sneeze without being shouted down as a racist but the Obama camp can get away with more side-of-the-mouth sexism than I ever thought possible. Wait until the undecideds and independents see the surly, entitled holier-than-thou Obama supporters in the general election. They'll run to McCain so fast it'll make your head spin.

Do you really think that everyone who disagrees with Obama or supports Clinton is a Republican mole? Really?

Is it Obama or the highway in your view? Do we have to fall in-line with your candidate or be accused of purposely sinking the party?

Man, that attitude is really going to win a lot of people to the Democrats come November. Great strategy, idiot.

I'm waiting to hear the screaming from y'all about how it doesnlt matter. Like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana...

People here just can't accpet the fact that many people just prefer Clitnon over Obama plain and simple. It's always some sneaky Rove-like tactic, playing the race card, etc. Maybe, just maybe, people think she'd be a better President.

You really think Obama can win the general election with just the African-American vote and the same old liberal vanguard of white eggheads and students? Please. Barack Obama = smooth jazz remix of Michael Dukakis. And the fellow just gave up the state because he knows he doesn't have a prayer with rural white folks. He quit, tipped his king right in front of an entire swing state. Nice.

But I guess the only reason Clinton won is that those yokels are ignint, right? Could it be that some folks might be a little skeptical of a Presidential candidate who spent 20 years listening to a racist pastor? You surprised that still concerns people?

Go ahead, flame me. It's all I get with this crowd.

Good win tonight. Keep fighting for the working folks. Please don't listen to these priveliged eggheads tell you that this race is over.

I think it is hard to make the case for Hillary on forums like these and especially Huffington Post.

In fact, I have been formally warned by the forum police here at Salon that I am on thin ice, too. Salon has been polite and professional, but it's a little chilling to get a double-secret probation letter from any open online discussion board. Has anybody else get the warning email from them lately?

I suppose I was a little off-point at times and probably should have bitten my tongue on a couple of posts but, I wonder if I was a little too vociferous in my criticisms of Obama (and Camile Paglia, which I regret) that put me on the watch list. Maybe I was a little too agressive in my disenchantment with Obama. Most likely it's just that I'm too darn disagreeable and I deserved a little kick in the ass but still, I wonder if it would be the same if I railed against Hillary in the same manner.

It bothers me that the mainstream media takes great pleasure to make sport of Clinton and to portray her like some power-hungry race-baiter. And the lefty media like Salon is filled with Hillary-haters who will create a protective forcefield around Obma and make him immune to criticism. It's a miracle to these people she gets all the votes she does. The Obama-ites are convinced that only racists and retards vote for Clinton. Certainly no intelligent and considerate person could ever vote for her. Those of us who would like to see her as our next President (and also see through Obama's rhetoric and can look deeper into his voting record and CV) are merely waved away and treated like all kinds of rubes who have no mind of our own.

I believe the attitude of Obama supporters and the portrayal in the media of Clinton as some calculating, evil witch is fueling this recent movement toward her.
