another phony "war"
[Read the article: Congress to New York (and Chicago and L.A.): Drop dead]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Now we have the "war on immigrants" what next? It makes me so upset to read stories like this. First of all, the "war on terror" is a phony political ploy - good for business, and politicians pockets, but bad for the people. BushCo received warnings regarding a possible attack on the WTC by FBI agents, foreign governments including Russian intelligence, Egypt, Israel, and German governments, an expert panel commissioned by the Pentagon, among other sources...The Admin. chose to ignore these warnings because another "Pearl Harbor" what just what these war-mongers wanted.
Anyway, I live in NYC and I'm sure the police department would be very unhappy to see their funding taken away, but a anti-terror legislation at the price of civil liberties is not a trade off I'm willing to make. Never mind that that Tancredo basically wants to bribe these cities, 'NYC and others, stop with your common sense "smart law enforcement" or else loose millions in anti-terror funding!"
Are we heading into a New Dark Ages, where policy is made out of emotional knee-jerking, bellyaching, and fear? Despite the fact that immigration has almost nothing to do with terrorism, like another poster pointed out Atta was a legal resident and it seems in hindsight, the attacks occurred because our own government failed to heed it's own warning and intelligence - not because all those 'bad evil' immigrants. This anti-immigration thing smells of another political ploy. When are they going to stop it, their hate-tactics and fear mongering? When are we going to stop falling for it, and say enough is enough.
We should be asking our leaders why the current immigration laws are not being enforced and if something is not working than to fix the system so people who want to come here and work than they have a legal pathway to do so. We need to stop supporting these insane and unfair "free-trade" agreements that only make the developing world's economies worse, and contribute to humanitarian crises by deepening the debt and poverty of the people of these nations - making all these people want to leave their own countries such as Mexico. We also need to stop the insane, failed "war on drugs" which is nothing more than a war on our own citizenry not to mention that it contributes to destroying developing countries and helps fund terrorist organizations like the Taliban. I'm not surprised that all this is being spearheaded by Tancredo, have you heard any of his presidential speeches? Talk about anger and hatred.
There's a lot of anger and hatred in this country, and much of it is misplaced if we're going to go around blaming immigrants...what destroying our country is the wars, the free-trade agreements, the corporate welfare, the lack of support for families via access to health care and education, the pollution, the prison and military industrial complex... We need to recognize the real problems and come up with rational, smart solutions that work.
We must stop buying into all the hype and hate these phonies are spewing around. Have they forgotten that this country was built on the backs of immigrants? We need to kick these guys out of office and get some intelligent, rational, forward-thinking folk in there to fix this country. Public financing of campaigns would help. These people are literally destroying our nation. I have hope for the future now that people are starting to wake up and act.
[[[By the way brightidiot65 is a troll (probably a neo-con) who only writes angry and adversarial posts (in large quantities) apparently that's how he gets his jollies, he should be ignored so as not to encourage him.]]]

Someone will buy it
[Read the article: Eek, it's Sexy Anna Rexia! ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm sure this costume will sell...So goes sex and capitalism. Personally, I'm so sick of women being whored for all those boardroom pimps. Pick a product, pair it with a woman in tight spandex, throw in some breasts and booty (unless your talking about breast feeding moms of course!) and what da ya got? money, money, money, MO-NEY!. Beer & sex, music & sex, food & sex, pick noun any noun. It all makes sense right? If all you're looking for is more bucks, there's plenty of gullible guys out there who are easily duped into buying whatever comes with some boobs attached and In the case of this costume some girls who may think that buying it will make them look like that happy sexy anna-rexia on the cover and thus attracting that (shallow) man of their dreams...I'm just glad some women are deciding to reject the commercialized and plasticized version of female that these pimps are whoring (the majority of those advertising and business execs are men right?) I say make your own costume and stop giving money to all these creeps.

the elephant and the bee
[Read the article: Sick children left behind]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is just more terrible policy from the worst president this country has ever seen, and it's destroying us all. Yet, I'm not surprised, ever look at our bloated defense spending compared to spending on everything else (and I'm not talking about things that protect the troops like armor and training, which is necessary) I'm talking about all the money and profits private corporations and contractors are stealing from taxpayers; billions for Katrina relief spent with nothing to show for it, a trillion dollars from the Pentagon missing without a trace!. If you had to compare the two, defense spending versus spending on everything else (education, health care, bridges & roads...) we'd be looking at an elephant and a bee, maybe a whale and a bee. The difference is immense...and Eisenhower warned us about the military industrial complex! This all seems to follow a general pattern, the haves and the have nothings, the top 1% with 75% of the wealth and the rest of us fighting over crumbs. Talk about the redistribution of wealth, straight to the top! As expected it will be the children and our children's children who will pay.
