  • Contraceptives for reasons other than birth control

[Read the article: "Conscience" clauses: Clear?]

"Do doctors who refuse to prescribe "the pill" for contraception also refuse to prescribe the same medication for menstrual regulation?"

I wonder about this because I have been prescribed contraceptives many many times for Endometriosis. It's horrible to think that people are being denied legitimate medical treatment because the right wingers have gotten people so uptight about sex. I also wonder how many people are actually denied contraceptives or EC each year because of "moral" excuses. I hear individual stories all the time, but I've never read of anyone aggregating all these stories into a complete picture. Is the denial of contraceptives widespread? Are referral services being offered in a timely manner? How does this affect rural patients. Someone should do a study on this.

    "Misogyny AND misandry exist!"

Correction Misogyny and racism exists, but the reverse of these two don't. Jonathan, there's no such thing as "reverse sexism" (misandry) just like there's no such thing as "reverse racism" (racism towards white people). Don't believe me? Check out what first needs to be present in terms of power structure, in order for a group of people's to be oppressed. You need both economic and institutional power, which, is currently in the hands of white male rich able bodied men. Read this article on the common elements of oppression, to see:

    http://slanttruth.com/2007/10/03/the-common-elements-of-oppression/

    Quote:

"To understand the connection among the oppressions, we must examine their common elements. The first is a defined norm, a standard of rightness and often righteousness wherein all others are judged in relation to it. This norm must be backed up with institutional power, economic power, and both institutional and individual violence. It is the combination of these three elements that makes complete power and control possible. In the United States, that norm is male, white, heterosexual, Christian, temporarily able-bodied, youthful, and has access to wealth and resources. It is important to remember that an established norm does not necessarily represent a majority in terms of numbers; it represents those who have ability to exert power and control over others."

There you have it. If you are part of the group that shares the current norm (economic and institutional power) than it's virtually impossible for you to be a victim of racism (if you are white) or sexism (if you are male). Because of the current power structure we are definitely NOT living in a gynocracy or whatever that idiot calls it. But it does look like to me that Cavuto and his guest need to check on their own privilege as white men, stop whining and STFU. Whining is not an argument.

  • Method matters

[Read the article: Are women less willing to speak their minds?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Lets face it, I could come up with a theory (say, men are this way and women are that way) then go around, interview 100 people and cherry pick the ones that fit into my theory. Of course you wouldn't see the other 89 interviews with people that DIDN'T fit in with the theory, but never you mind!

I think that's exactly what this woman did. She interviewed a bunch of people and cherry picked the ones that supported her theory. And of course it looks very convincing because we don't see all the OTHER people that she interviewed, where most likely there were intelligent women responding. Not to mention, you do this in NYC, walk up to random people and try to talk to them, and you are just going to get a bunch of NYC attitude, like "GET THE F- OUT OF MY FACE! I'M BUSY"

Keep in mind whenever anyone presents you with data to try and support a hypothesis, that method matters. You need to take a look at how they did their survery/study/etc/ because results can be warped to support just about any theory. It's what BigPharma does every time they submit a drug to the FDA for approval, warp the results 'case no one will see, and no one will notice (that is until people start dying).

LeCastor, you didn't even read what I wrote. Basically what you did was provide me with a dictionary entry as your proof that something exists. By this logic I could provide you with a dictionary entry of "creationism" as proof of itself. Or I could provide you with the words "loc nes monster" as proof that that exists. So, sorry, that's a pretty lame try, if you ask me. A dictionary entry as proof that something exists, not THATS pretty dumb.

I think YOU need to sharpen up on your logic and "don't be dumb". You didn't even read what I wrote, nor did you even take a look at the article I posted. If you did, you might have some intelligent response on the common origins of oppression or intersectionality or something like that, but NOOO you provide me with a dictionary entry as proof that something exists! HA!
