Its called off-site storage
[Read the article: My laptop was stolen -- I feel like my life is gone!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]As a practical matter, I have no sympathy for anyone who loses business documents, dissertation, and the like because their computer is stolen.
I run a small business. I know that if my main computer and backup unit were stolen/destroyed I would be in deep do-do. (As a side point, a business I know actually closed up shop after a lighning bolt hit the main junction box outside its office. The strike burned out every computer/server/piece of hardware it had. It had no off-site backup.)
So I do daily backups which I keep in the office and once a week I do a backup to a portable hard drive which is then taken off-site. And for some truly important files, I also do daily backups to a web-base storage service.

you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make them drink
[Read the article: Our best friends are scarily, heedlessly in debt]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Have the conversation, give them a gift of some relevant books, offer to pay their first visit to a credit counselor, etc.
Over the years, I have told a number of people rich if they would follow my advice (live below your means, set up a rainy day fund, save regularly for retirement, , etc). Only one person has taken me up.
I have also helped a number of people become debt free. They taught them how to prepare a budget, how to live on a budget, pay of their bills, etc. Within four years, they were right back in debt.
So help your friends to the best of your ability. But if they cannot see the folly of their ways, don't be the bit surprised when they the train wreck.

Love at first site
[Read the article: If the first date isn't great, why go out with him again? ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]When you are young, love at first site or on the first date seems reasonable if not expected. After all no one is carrying any baggage.
But by the time you are in your 30s you have outgrown that state: you have come to realize that people are human and everyone carries the baggage of their past. That is what makes each one special.
So go out on the second date. Who knows the first date frog may actually be your prince in shining armour. All you had to do was take the time to recognize him for what he really is.

How I solved my problem
[Read the article: Would you please get out of my swimming pool!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Years ago I had the same problem whenever I left town. All of the neighborhood kids would use the pool. I solved the problem by putting up a large sign whenever I left town that read “Warning Warning Warning. Do not use this pool. It is being chemically treated. Serious injury may result.” No one used the pool while the sign was up.
