ACK!!!!

I don't know where to begin. Please, do that kid a favor and get other people in his life since you "can't deal". With all that unnamed money funding your life of introspection, hire a full time nanny. That's what rich self absorbed people have done for centuries. Why change!? As for me, I'm off to actually raise the kids I CHOSE to have.

Let's cut Twilight some slack, guys

Jeez, papabotts, I'm not sure what young girls you've been hanging around but my 11 yr old daughter and her friends have not "seen or read about plenty of sexual issues by the age of 12". They like soccer and horses and Harry Potter. They are only slightly starting to be interested in boys and Twilight is just the right speed for them. I've read the Twilight books and enjoyed reliving my early teens when you first notice boys and feel overwhelmed with longing but yet at the same time are afraid of sex as well. Everyone should remember these books were written for young girls who are NOT into Gossip Girl/Paris Hilton/thongs for 11 yr olds & pants with juicy written on their asses. I am a staunch feminist and extremely liberal but am glad about these books being available for young adolescent girls. I watched Buffy and she is awesome but not very relatable to most young girls. I've always seen feminism as the availability of choices for girls and women; not that we must all aspire to be amazons. Yes, Bella is portrayed as slightly dopey and weak, but most people act/feel that way at some point in their lives. Especially in their early teens when they are learning who they are. Let's cut this movie some slack - teen boys get their stereotypical action films and raunchy sex comedies, why not allow young girls their own fantasy movie? I doubt they will grow up to be doormats for enjoying Twilight just as young teen boys who love Transformers etc won't go around shooting people and blowing things up when they grow up.

And True Blood is hot, btw. But not suitable for Twilight's audience of 12-15 yr old girls.

Clarification

I meant the pg-13 Michael Bay explosion/sexy girl bonanza, not the little kids cartoon.

I'd have to look at the book again but I don't recall Edward ever getting angry with Bella. Also, she was new to town and didn't have any friends yet. Granted, I think most women can think of a girl/woman they knew that always dumped her friends for a man. Always irritating and pathetic. I didn't see that in Twilight. Her obsession with Edward did prevent her from developing friendships(except with Edward's "sister").

I still don't think Twilight is supporting the male patriarchy and setting girls up for abuse. Maybe it's because I've never been in an abusive relationship or had any relatives or close friends in one, but I don't see the sinister subtext. I thought it was more like Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Pride & Prejudice etc. Though not as well written.

Ugh!

How could you love a man who was such a terrible, miserable failure of a father?! He has no business dating you. He should be focusing on his depressed daughter, not some twenty-something babe. I find this letter to be incredibly depressing. She spent most of her time at the nanny's house? Run, run away now! What kind of person would treat their flesh and blood like this? A bad person, that's who.

I have zero regret over my abortion

It drives me bananas when I read that everyone must feel horrible, depressed and ravaged over her decision to abort. It was 100% the right thing for me to do as a teenager. I was then able to finish college, get my Masters, get married and have two wonderful kids who are being raised by two loving, financially independent, educated parents. None of that would have happened if I'd not had an abortion. So, yes, sometimes it's a good idea and sometimes it's a bad idea to abort. Legalizing it or outlawing it are both pointless. Women will do what they need to do, whether the govt tells them one thing or another.

Not seeing it

Um, as a teacher and mother of an 11 and 8 yr old, I don't think this actress looks 8. She looks like all the college girls I see around town(I live in a big university town). Maybe the article build up was too much, but I was really expecting to see a disturbing image. A Brooke Shields in Pretty Baby, Kirstin Dunst in Interview with a Vampire image. My first thought was that the ad is a total rip off of the Twilight cover. And the whole apple/garden of eden image was hokey and contrived. I can get my panties in a wad over creepy kid stuff(thong underwear at little girls stories, juicy written across the asses of prepubescent girls etc) but in this case the author seems to be over reacting. 8? Really? How many 8 yr old girls do you actually know?
