  • babies can’t be on restrictive diets

    [Read the article: Murderous vegans]

These parents were more then dumb. They starved their baby to death. I can’t imagine what they told themselves as their little guy was wasting away. I’m sure he cried all the time. These parents would have had to have been mentally ill to have any sort of excuse. I don’t for a moment buy that they thought their child was healthy. A baby can’t be a vegan – there just isn’t enough soy milk in the world – that diet did kill this baby.

But for every parent starving their child on soy milk there are 10 crazy moms trying to cut the little guy’s carb intake because they think he’s too fat. I’m positive you can starve a baby on nothing but whole foods too. Sometimes I think we should come with owner’s manuals.

  • soy formula v. soy milk

    [Read the article: Murderous vegans]

They are two different things. Soy formula is made especially for a baby and it’s fortified with all the goodness that growing babies need (not all of which is plant based products). My understanding is the crack pots who starved their baby were feeding their infant the kind of soy milk adults lighten their coffee with - and that's going to starve a baby.

  • Oh, LW!

[Read the article: I feel terrible about leaving but I have to go]

This family secured a house, car and work for you or they didn’t. Jim did help you get on your feet (emotionally if not financially) or he didn’t. You are flirting around with Bill or you’re not - and why mention where he lives if that’s not on your radar.

Sorry – but you still sound spoiled and childish. And that defense didn’t make it any better. In fact it contradicted your original letter and it makes you seem even less creditable.

If you really can take care of yourself then now’s the time to do it. No money from Jim. No help from Bill. If you want people to think of you as decent, loving and independent then that’s how you do it.

  • Plus you get free weed?

“I wonder if you would all be so quick to judge had I mentioned the illegal agriculture the boyfriend is planning?”

Lol. I’d say you’re with the wrong person (and I think practically everyone is in agreement on that note). You don't sound like you feel terrible anymore. Now you’re justified. The tone of the story keeps changing even if the facts are (sort of) the same.

Just leave Jim with what you feel is yours and head off to Bill's. Everything you say is a justification to that end so just do it – but don’t expect anyone to applaud your upward jump. Another poster said in a nicer way below – but if you’re going to be an ass-hole then just be an ass-hole and fuck me and Cary everyone else who’d like to see you do better for yourself.

  • Re: Steaming an animal to death.

[Read the article: The king of summer comfort food]

You kill a lobster before steaming it. If you slip a knife under the shell of the animals ‘neck’ they die instantly and you don’t even scar the shell. You just want it alive up to that point to ensure you’re getting the freshest lobster you can get. Any detailed recipe that involves grilling, baking or steaming is going to instruct you do to that. Boiling really will kill the animal just about instantly – but I always kill them first just in case.

It's oysters are best eaten alive. Yum.

  • Another reason to hate on FOX

[Read the article: Jordin sparks "fat" debate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Jordin is just 17 and she’s probably 6 feet tall. She looks like a healthy, normal teenage girl. Some nasty old witch on Fox trying to make her feel bad just comes off looking like a jerk.

I was more of a Blake fan – but Jordin is a beautiful young woman who radiates good health by any standard.

  • But the LW uses drugs!

[Read the article: My 28-year-old girlfriend wants to do drugs -- just like I used to!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If my pot smoking boyfriend told me that he wouldn’t tolerate my drug use I’d drop is tired old hypocritical ass immediately. If the LW is planning on telling his girlfriend what she can and can’t do, while he smokes and drinks whatever he pleases, he might as well beat her to the proverbial punch and break up now.

I also think you CAN learn from another person’s mistakes. No one was more instrumental in my staying away from hard drugs then my former addict of a step-father – when he told me about heroin and coke I listened. And when he took me to visit some worn out old friend my step-dad told me why that 30 year old, toothless guy looked 60 – that’s an image you don’t forget.

If I had only had Nancy ‘just say no’ Regan to look to for advice I might have discounted every bit of it after discovering pot was not a big deal. My step-dad’s advice (that I should wait for collage to do soft drugs and stay clear of the hard stuff) was actually very useful and I’m glad he was there to treat me like a thinking adult when so many other people were just leaving it at ‘no.’
