  • Re: It's also a purely economic issue.

No. The reasoning you describe is cultural and not economic. Because we know that women can be educated, they can go to work, they can support their parents, and they can have a rich, full life just like any man. And I happen to know many Indian women who are doing just that.

India’s economy may have adjusted to a cultural norm – but that dosen’t mean their economy is stronger for it.

  • very little sympathy for these women

If I was the judge I don’t too many of these children would be reunited with their mother’s. These are women who think it’s a-ok to let their 13 year old daughters sleep with adults and that it’s a fine idea to toss out their 13 year old sons in the middle of nowhere. And to hear them on the news asking ‘why is this happening?’ makes me sick. It’s only the adults who have asked for help to get away from this crazy life that deserve their kids back.

Is raping teenage girls in the name of Jesus not abuse? How about covering that rape up?

These kids ARE separated from society at large. Their parents did that so that they could rape young girls and no one would notice. Some of these kids are surly damaged beyond all repair – but these parents did that and NOT the state.

I really don't understand how anyone can defend these dangerous nut jobs.

So, you’re cool that this sect kicks out 12 year old boys so 50 year old men can marry their peers? And it’s fine that these boys who have no idea the world is even round are just dropped off at some random truck stop to prostitute themselves?

And I guess it’s cool that these women, who have never worked outside the home a day in their lives and were never taught to ever read, collect public assistance as ‘single mothers’ so they can turn that money back to the cult and they can build a temple to have sex with their 12 year old brides?

Honestly. People should do a touch more research into this before they go shooting off their mouths.

Defending child rapists and parents who abandon their children in the name of ‘freedom of religion’ or ‘historical correctness’ – it’s something I can’t wrap my head around.

  • Maybe it’s all those cute teammates?

I used to date a soccer player when I was in school and it was fun to be part of that social circle. I don’t know if hanging out with the golf team would have been as much fun.

  • scary

During the writer’s strike I started watching old Dallas re-runs. One of the things you notice right off the bat is how normal women look. Sure they’re all beautiful, wear high heels, crazy outfits and tons of jewels – but their faces all looked normal and their teeth don’t glow that scary bright white. If you were to take some old episode of that show and compare it to a modern show full of rich and fabulous women the modern actresses start to look like great big, ugly bugs. It’s not a good look.

I know for a fact that Pricilla Presley was a beautiful woman – but she’s now completely deformed herself to the point I can’t look at her without it hurting my own face. And it’s so sad because she should be this elegant lady. It’s really strange that this plastic look is becoming normal on TV – I think more people should start talking about it and those freaky looking actresses should be told they look bizarre.

  • If they looked younger it would be one thing…

[Read the article: Ugh, what did she do to herself?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

But none of these people look younger. They just look skinny, tight, shinny and freakish. It’s like all of Hollywood came up with this alien standard of beauty that we’re all just supposed to accept as ‘young looking’ even if it looks terrifying.

Renee Zelwegger is a good case in point – something is actually seriously wrong with her face but we’re all supposed to accept that she’s this standard of beauty. I do hate to come down on her (I realize she has feelings too) but on the other side we can’t just let this deformed look pass as glamorous.

And men are doing this too. It’s funny that someone said Dustin Hoffman hasn’t – because he looks like a victim to me. And has anyone seen Kenny Rogers lately? YIKES!

  • If he deserves so much sympathy…

[Read the article: Old, fat, male ... and bulimic?]

Why call him out as old and fat in the header? Is this how we show sympathy to people now? Harding sounds like a real jerk in this post. Not at all cute.

  • I liked this post. But the bag IS cute.

[Read the article: Your handbag is hysterical!]

Not 4K cute but I'll bet Coach is working on a knock-off in real snake skin right now.

when the third tier designers (9-West et al) start knocking off this bag in variety of vinyl colors at $80 EVERYONE is going to be carrying it (I’ll take mine in bright green, please). And that’s what Gucci is all about – this bag isn’t supposed to be for everyone. But it is supposed to set a larger trend and I’ll bet that happens with this bag.

Of course - by the time it's out on the street the fad is as dead as a black, Kate Spade box tote.

And regarding the snake skin – animal rights issues aside natural skins are certainly preferable to pressed vinyl. No?

  • Isn’t this what everyone’s first year was like?

When I saw the letter count I thought this might be a good one for a change. But this is another totally normal problem. This girl would be having the exact same issues out West – it would just be sunnier while she was having them. The only reason the letter count is high is because of that East Coast/West Coast war (yawn).

  • @ Why is that offensive again?

[Read the article: Ladies, fight rape with ankle bracelets]

Because it makes your daughter responsible for protecting herself. Can you imagine you child being attacked in a public place and the police shrugging and saying, ‘Not our fault. She should have called us on her ankle thingy.’
