But see how I’m saying the same thing you are? I am putting my money where my mouth is and I’m calling him a man. If you want to talk about a transgender man having a baby that’s a human interest story that we could all learn a lot from. But that’s not the story the mainstream press is running with. They’ve decided to go with, ‘man is pregnant’ and the man we’re talking about is smiling under that headline and basking in all the free gifts. Really I’m sort of surprised you don’t find him to be making light of something that’s so serious and personal to you.

I only know two transgender people (both with very different stories) I’ll admit to not being up to date on the PC gender lingo that’s going to make you happy. But I’ll tell you what – it would have been way cooler for you to engage me in a real conversation then to blow me off as a bigot.

You’re totally forgiven for calling me a bigot. I can appreciate you getting all worked up over this. I’m sorry you’ve been reading such hurtful things today. Stay strong.

  • step way back and take a look at your life

Envision the life you want in 10, 20 and 30 years from now. And I’m not only talking about your job (although that’s important too). I’m talking about all of it. Think of the house and car you want, the friends you see yourself having dinner with, the books on your shelf, the parties you’ll go to, the places you’ll visit, the possibility of children, your religious/philosophical ideas, how you’d like to retire – see it all.

Now ask yourself if your boyfriend has a place in this life just the way he is right now. If not cut him free – he sounds like a real catch and I’m sure he lands himself a fantastic, lucky girl who isn’t asking him to be someone he’s not.

There is something to be said for this theory. I know lots of very cool single women in their 30s who feel they need to have a man in their lives who makes more/as much then them. And they feel this way specifically so they can take off for a couple of years to raise kids. Of course the irony is these women are waiting so long to find that Mr. Perfect that most of them will probably have waited to long to have the kids that demanded a lawyer or doctor to support everyone.

And that Mr. Perfect? He’s much more open to dating a 20-something secretary and then I get to hear how ‘all men are pigs’ and I realize that some of my female friends will probably never have the romantic, prefect relationship they dream of.

  • Step away from the TV!

“remember the Sex and the City where Miranda dates the guy who cannot have sex without porn on the set?”

Ok – that is a fake TV show. It was not even written by a woman. I live in this city and I can tell you that this show is not even 1% real. Seriously. I’ve never watched an episode of that show and thought, ‘that’s exactly how it is.’ You can not take even one moment from that show and think it translates to real live in any way. Men in this city are great! I know lots of single ones too.

Sorry to pick on you – but you are setting yourself up for total relationship failure by talking about that show as if it is a documentary.

When I first read this I thought, 'I hope they do get those records!' I want these men to see sick women and malformed fetuses and all the heartache and drama that must go along with this type of decision and procedure. Maybe putting a face on this (even an unwilling one) would make people think.

And then I remembered what these people are really like. They’d picket outside of cancer wards and mental hospitals and they’d defend the rights of the unborn even if those poor babies are born with painful, evil diseases that would only mean suffering. Thanks for keeping it real Brightstar!

I did get married in my 20s. I’m very happy too. Did I settle? Sure I did. At some point you have to because there are endless possibilities out there – with so many people in the world you could ‘shop’ forever if you let yourself. And I’m not much of a shopper.

And that’s what Sex was about: the shopping. If you want to shop forever you can do that but you can’t love on all that ‘man shopping’ and then complain when the men you attract with that sort of strategy live up to all your poor expectations. Generally speaking you find whatever it is you’re looking for.

But it’s your Seinfeld comment that has me even more fascinated because I don’t think you really understand that show.

“Seinfeld started it by portraying older singles as a normal lifestyle choice and SATC just went with it from there.”

Seinfeld is the story of a group of dysfunctional friends who are so crazy, so picky that they constantly sabotage their own happiness. They are so messed up that by the end of the story every person they every met gets to take their revenge against this troop of losers and the end up in jail. That’s why it’s funny! It’s not the story of a group of singles in NYC – that you see it that way may explain why you’re having so much trouble dating.
