  • RE: I don't get it

[Read the article: New York Gov. Spitzer resigns]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The reason anyone voted for Spitzer is because he was such a hard-ass against the money laundering and the organized crime and such. That he was a part of those activities (and yes – prostitution rings are all mobbed up) completely takes away any authority he once had – especially since he’s been so unforgiving of anyone else who has anything to do with this world. He has few friends in Albany and little sympathy from the public that elected him. He’d be a lame duck if he stayed.

Its best that it’s this way for the Democratic Party – we’ve got a really great Lt. Gov standing in the wings (he’ll be the first black Gov since Restoration) and another couple of years in the term for this to all blow over.

Before Spitzer the Republicans ruled for 12 years – we can’t let them take this opportunity to slip back in. Him stepping down was the only way this story was going to end.

  • Bad PR

[Read the article: Why stand by? ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

How was this her decision? Doesn’t the Spitzer Administration have people to make these sorts of decisions? I’d have guessed she had people telling her how to dress and where to stand and how to project herself. You never know what goes on behind closed doors but it’s my guess she just wanted to end this quickly and someone told her this was the way.

Bottom line is I don’t think we can tell a thing from her being there except that someone thought her presence there would be a good thing – of course that person was very, very wrong.

  • There are lots of male prostitutes too

[Read the article: New debates about the oldest profession]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I realize that’s not what THIS scandal is about but if we’re talking prostitution in general let’s not forget there are lots of men out there too who are doing it for all the same reasons the ladies are. And yet no one is calling these men whores or questioning the larger male work ethic.

I know why everyone would rather the face of all prostitutes be a pretty, young Kristen – but that’s really seems to be more about the media showing us sexy photos of ladies then it is about the larger issue of prostitution.

  • “It's OK to vote for Obama because he's black”

[Read the article: Geraldine Ferraro still needs to apologize]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Salon published that article just a couple of weeks ago. To me that article proved just what Ferraro said. Now I didn’t much like the Salon article and I didn’t much like the way Ferraro said what she said – but how is it all that different?

Lately Salon has been sort of CNN. If I had to sum up Salon this week it would be whores, poop and this hypocritical attack on Ferraro and I do not love it. It’s all getting to sensational and icky.

  • Time to move again

[Read the article: I'm living in filth!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Short of getting rid of the dogs your best bet is to move into a place with hardwood floors. It’s possible you’ve got hardwood floors under you carpet now – but it’s more likely that you live in a more modern apartment complex that has no such hidden treasures. And a steam cleaner may help – but if you carpet is the cheap kind (as is the norm in most rentals – they don’t spring for Scotch Guard or natural fibers) a cleaning is not going to be the magic fix you want it to be. So start packing and make a change!

And know that the people who lease apartments have seen it all - what to you is disgusting is just another tenant flip to them. Just clean out the fridge and pay your fees and hold your head up high. The carpet that you’re so worried about probably just cost them a few hundred dollars and they were going to replace it when you left anyway.

  • He was hit in the eye

[Read the article: I'm (not) in love with a stripper]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That’s what all the local papers are saying.

  • A non-story

[Read the article: Say it ain't so, David Paterson]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Most people I’ve known who have been married for so long have struggled with infidelity. It's as common as dirt.

The Spitzer story was about prostitutes, money laundering and hypocrisy. But a standard affair? It’s prudish for anyone to be concerned with that and I feel embarrassed for the new Governor that he felt he had to expose his (and his wife’s) past transgressions against each other.

And yet it was smart that Paterson did it now – because if this came out on it’s own it could have ruined him. As it is it’s just a little banner on the front page of all the papers and tomorrow this story will be rightfully forgotten.

  • Oh, this will be a feature film

[Read the article: Sexism in the pool]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I see Will Ferrell in the lead role.

But really no one should be competing in this sport on an Olympic level. Maybe at one time this was the cool Olympic event for the ladies but that time is long gone and this event should be replaced with something more relevant.

  • Yeah, you sound a bit like prudes

[Read the article: Another day, another sex scandal]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

To me a threesome is not a big deal. Neither is a 10 year old affair that’s long since been worked out. Those sorts of things sound normal to me. I understand that a news outlet can hardly ignore the story but I’d like to see it all put in some sort of perspective - I’ll bet a good percentage of Americans have had affairs and threesomes and all sorts of ‘wild’ things.

I completely agree with you. These ‘sex-scandal’ stories on Broadsheet seem to assume that women don’t have any sort of sexual appetite and that we’re all grossed out by anything that’s not approved by the Christian Right.
