a bad, bad sign

I smell and affair with the city dwelling secretary! Maybe not right now – but if the wife and the LW are on such different pages, and the husband is already feeling unhappy and put out, it really is just a matter of time. If the LW waits for things to change I’m afraid he’ll end up having a couple of kids and THEN having this major freak on his wife and their suburban life – and that’s going to cost way more then 50K.

So LW – get you and your wife to a counselor’s office! Figure out what your big goals are. If you’re on such different pages that for one person to be happy the other must sacrifice everything then you’ve got to ask yourself why you got married to begin with.

So what?

There are no ‘shifting numbers.’ There was no snafu. The correct numbers simply weren’t reported to the media as quickly as they would have wanted: that’s why the NY Times has a beef and that’s why it’s only a regional story.

I don't know...

I sort of like this photo spread. LL comes off as soft, feminine and troubled just like she’s supposed to. Plus she’s really beautiful. Did you see her boobs? Lovely and, I’m willing to bet, real. You really don’t see them like that too much anymore on celebrities.

I don’t think it’s such an honor to be called out for being a pretty, young train wreck who could die at any moment - but the photos did come out nicely.

Re: learningforlife

What I’d really like to read is the message your sweetheart sent back to you.

Original article: Holy hot marital sex!

These posters are nuts today!

I’ve been married for 10 years and I still like the sex too! And when I don’t get any I end up sad and crabby. Sex is fun and it makes good marriages better.

Love Tina Fey

‘Bitch is the new black’ is a great line. Not that the rest of the show was hysterical but ‘the news’ was really very funny.

Thank you!

I also look forward to rating fellow posters. My tendency is generally to ignore the truly awful posters in the hopes they’ll go away – but I love the idea of pointing out what crap their post is and then ignoring them.

Try some Ex-Pat bars

Wherever you are in Europe I can guarantee you there are lots of other English speakers your age feeling overwhelmed and glum too. So try an English speaking bar and get to know some other travelers. A glass or two of wine is cheaper then a hostel and it’s cool to just hang out at a bar (I’d be hesitant of someone with an apartment who was staying in a hostel just to hang out).

I think the most fun I ever had in Paris was hanging out at an Irish bar with an Englishman who had recently moved to town. Too bad I was just blowing through for a couple of weeks because he was a super dreamy guy! I guess that’s sort of cheating (hanging out with English speakers while abroad) – but to this American girl it was all foreign and exotic and it got me out of the hotel room and talking to different people.

move to a better job market (and do it yesterday!)

Is this LW following her husband around at the cost of her own career? My advice to her is to move to the place that’s best for her work – maybe her honey can follow her around because she needs to get to work quickly or that nice education of hers is going to turn into a great big, stinky, expensive albatross.

I’m currently hiring for the type of job the LW is freaking out over ‘settling’ over and she needn’t worry – because I’d never hire her in a million years! Because I know what she thinks is a big secret: she’d bail on me as soon as she found something better. And I don’t have time for that. You want to know how many resumes for a receptionist position I got from people with graduate degrees? No, you don’t. It’s way depressing – especially since most of them have been out of work for months and months.

I appreciate Cary’s answer – but I’m really freaking out on behalf of this LW! She can’t be out of work and she can’t be dicking around with jobs that are beneath her. She needs to find a job in her field or she needs to erase that graduate degree from her resume and just settle.

Re: kufir77

It’s wonderful that you enjoy vanilla sex with your partner. But insisting that everyone get off the same way you get off is prudish, crazed and downright un-American. All these dumb old laws need to be taken off the books. Good for Texas for chipping away at them.

And it’s not like owning a sex toy means you’re playing solitaire – but since you seem rather sheltered I won’t get into it…

Re: But don't media outlets do this all the time?

Yeah – but I expected more out of the Washington Post. But I guess that’s just more evidence of my silliness!

And I thought of Paglia too after reading this! That woman is awful but she gets tons of page views and reader comments because people like to argue at her. It’s the sort of noise that just makes my head hurt, adds nothing and makes Salon look poor when you take the long view.

I think the larger conversation here is not are women smart – it’s about page views, how low you’ll go to get them and what it all means in the long run.
