Men do have a choice

Who the hell is John Goldthwaite?
[Read the article: The Jesus symbol, the witch and the wardrobe]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]First, to bobdatuna, a cite would be helpful. All the history I have read of the time Lewis and Tolkien spent at Oxford was that the latter argued from a Catholic perspective, not an athiestic one.
As far as Laura Miller dragging up obscurities propounded by one John Goldthwaite, why? Where are Goldthwaite's great stories then? What does he bring to the table to rival Lewis? "Dracula Spectacula"?
Peter Hunt ["Children's Literature"] quotes John Goldthwaite:
"In this henpecked world, no one speaks the unspeakable: that, with the exception of Beatrix Potter [sic], every great children's novel was written by a man, and nearly all of them by a man with little or no professional interest in children or their literature."
Yeah, that's Goldthwaite ...
Who cares what bozos like this think? The Narnia stories speak for themselves. They are flawed, like every story is flawed, and carry with them the encumbrances of their author's prejudices, yet they remain beautiful and powerful stories that will still be touching hearts when Goldthwaite is long gone and forgotten.

God, what a stunning review this is
[Read the article: "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's one of the best things I have ever read on Salon, and I have been reading for a very long time. The review took complex dynamics of political interference and dismissed each with a polished nail. It focused on the story and the execution of that story on screen, and boiled my blood to see it.
Advice to all: do not cede a lick of ground to the right wing over this movie. Why let them have all the diamonds?

They're fun in person
[Read the article: Daily Download: "White Knuckles," the Bacon Brothers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Truth is, one man's unlistenable shit is another's Jello Puddin' Pop. I saw the Bacon Bros in San Diego, in a seatless, oversold, and terrible venue, but they were fun to watch and listen to. Have you ever seen them live?
No, they are not Kevin Gilbert, but they execute well on stage and sound a lot better up there than a lot of the boring and annoying shit you post out of studio.
Another gripe: Lay off the studio musicians, pal. They are the techs of music, the journeymen and journeywomen who make it happen. Most of them muddle by out of love. Their skills are necessary ones.
Not that I expect you to understand. You're too fucking hip to acknowledge an email.

Should Women have to bear children they do not want?
[Read the article: Should men have to support children they father but don't want?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]No. They have a right to choose. It would be wise for feminists to remember that as comforting as the thought of a steady check coming in every month for the next 18 years might be, the very same "societal good" arguments used to enslave an unwilling father may be turned against unwilling mothers. In fact, they already are, in South Dakota and Mississippi.
If a woman wishes to parent a child with the financial aid of the father, it should require the foreknowledge and assent of both parties, not just the woman.

Angry Cupids and good writers
[Read the article: "World Trade Center"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Lefty the reality based Engineer had some interesting points in background and I thank him for his or her thoughtful thoughts. Funny, I had not had enough thoughtful thoughts myself about the plain success of the evacuation. Lefty is right, they did get a lot of our people out of there.
As far as all of this Joan Walsh shit goes, what in the fuck are you talking about, Cupid? Some old lava from "The Well"?
Who the fuck cares what you you think of Joan Walsh and what does any of that have to do with this review?
Joan, I blow you kisses for every sting from every loveless, unintelligible, cupid. Let them heal your skin.
Stepanie Zacharek is the most unpredictable and nuanced film critic in the USA, and an unfailing delight to read.
This review was no exception.

Back to the problem, indeed
[Read the article: I've lost control of my son's christening!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Cary's response was solid, disregarding the stuff about "It's my party's" choice to put the cart before the horse.
The world is full of churches, charitable and kind, that refuse to cowtow to the rigid and bilious fundamentalist rabble. Remember, just because your church does it one way does not in any manner levy an obligation on others do the same.
As far as the details of the affair, how long is this whole thing going to take? A weekend? A week at most? This is the perfect opportunity for IMP to establish herself as matriarch. All she has to do is call the shots, use polite and firm "No's" when appropriate, and insist upon peace and order while embracing her new family graciously. Run a tight ship, feed the guests well, and laugh a lot. She may be surprised at how well she gets along with the siblings when they understand that they have to play by her rules in her home court.

She probably wasn't googling a photo, and a note for hahahaha
[Read the article: What should I say to my husband?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Remember, the LW attended burning man with her husband. She doubtless met the woman or heard her hubby mention her name. She probably googled that.
And word to hahahaperson: Don't mean to take you by surprise here, but infidelity hits Catholics and Methodists and Baptists too.
