You're right, of course..
[Read the article: The emperor's new peace plan]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]..this peace plan is a charade, never meant to succeed.
Note that countries like Saudi Arabia use the plight of the Palestinians as a rallying cry. But they could do much more in practical matters, if they had the will.
Why exactly were all these countries even invited? This is political machinations at the highest level.
But you neglected to explore the option that Bush is just delusional. Maybe he actually *believes* that he is bringing peace to the middle east.
He *is* a man of faith after all. Or so he claims.

Bravo
[Read the article: A moral "Compass"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The whole premise of religion is that we have a choice, to choose right or wrong. God does not make the choice for us.
I personally think that is part of the problem. If I was running the universe, I would make all the choices. You hear me kids? I am running this little universe while you live under this roof.

No fatwas here
[Read the article: A moral "Compass"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]For those who naively think that Catholicism is a milder form of extremism than, say, Islam, I beg to differ.
Some things I have personally experienced:
1) Choked by my father when I refused to go to church.
2) Shunning
3) Threats of excommunication
4) Threats of disownment
We're talking about a kid here.
Of course, I got off lucky. Other kids got it up the butt from their priest.

Might makes Right
[Read the article: The fate of the Earth, the Bush years]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The U.S. has sent a very simple message to the world:
If you don't have nuclear weapons, then you *shouldn't* have them, and we will prevent you from getting them.
However, if you somehow manage to acquire them, then welcome to the club! You will be afforded respect.
This primitive and dangerous message, which can be understood by an 8 year old child, has been heard by the rest of the world.

"Even a stopped clock is right twice a day."
[Read the article: Our serious foreign policy geniuses strike again]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]hahahahahahahahaha.
Only neocons can get away with making statements like this.

Maybe I'll just read the book..
[Read the article: "The Golden Compass"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]We went to see "into the wild". I'm still haunted by it. No cgi though.

Bush may be a dinosaur..
[Read the article: American bummer in Bali]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]..but remember, dinosaurs ruled the earth for many years. It took a global catastrophe before they were eliminated, and other species could evolve.
I have to laugh when people point at China as an excuse. WTF difference does it make what China does? Hey, some governments support genocide. Does that mean we should support it too?
I suppose we should paint all our toys with lead, just because China does.
This is America, not China. Get a clue, stupid anonymous poster.

Iran is a dangerous rogue state.
[Read the article: Bringing Iran in from the cold]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]For decades, they have cultivated a nuclear weapons program, and amassed one of the biggest nuclear arsenals in the world.
Then they have lied and misrepresented the truth to cover it up, in violation of every treaty and law.
They have also used their political connections in the United States to manipulate Middle East policy. They even lobby Congress to give money and weapons to their cause.
Yes, we need to bomb Iran right away.
Oh, wait a minute... I sense that someone has been playing us for suckers.

Just for kicks..
[Read the article: Let's have a presidential debate on science]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]..look up the amount of money that the federal government is spending on basic science. The kind of science that drives innovation, cures disease, helps develop alternate energy sources. The kind of science that corporations will not do, because it is not cost-effective in the short term.
Then compare that amount that the government is spending on weapons, military, and warfare.
That should tell you as clearly as anything, where we stand as a country, and a society.
It is a lot harder to create than destroy.

These are not contractors..
[Read the article: Blackwater in Baghdad: "It was a horror movie"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]They are mercenaries. They fight not for country, not for religion, not for ideology, but only for money.
As such, I consider them to be little more than hired thugs. Not much better than terrorists, in fact, Iraqis probably can't tell the difference.
The Roman army used to hire mercenaries to fight for them. It didn't work out so well, eventually they found a lot of the mercenaries on the other side.

People don't recognize..
[Read the article: Why Wall Street should be more like a cockroach]
[Read more letters about this article: Here].. that one of the most important technological advances in the last couple of decades is not in microchips or cell phones, but finance.
It is quite obvious when listening to TV commentators, that very few actually understand finance and markets. This is also illustrated by the number of people that got burned by the mortgage crunch.
Some of these financial instruments are being used to create Ponzi-like schemes. They are dependent on constant growth. As soon as growth stops, it collapses.
What will the end result be? Can you ever get something for nothing? For a time, but then you have to pay the credit bill.

Clinton haters
[Read the article: Why conservatives love Barack Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I personally don't hate Hillary. I just don't trust her. For the same reason I didn't trust Bill.
Why? Because he is a Liar. Don't tell me you didn't inhale. Do you think I am stupid? Don't tell me you didn't have sex, and try to parse words. Hillary has the same duplicity.
The current president is also a big fat liar. He tells us things are going great in Iraq, he tells us the US doesn't torture.
You are a liar, sir.
The fact that Obama owned up to his mistakes goes a ways, in my opinion.
But thats just me. Most people may have a different view.
-
Hillary a strong woman? nah.
[Read the article: The witch ain't dead, and Chris Matthews is a ding-dong]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've yet to see Clinton stand up to a man. For years she supported Bill when he lied, and she should have called him on it.
Then in Congress, she supported Bush's policies as much as any republican.
If she ever called a man on his bullshit, i'd give her some kudos. To be a leader, you've got to stand up to dickheads.

Chris Mathews and Bill Oreilly
[Read the article: The witch ain't dead, and Chris Matthews is a ding-dong]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]..If they were on the same show, they would run around and around, giving each other wedgies. And giggling.
I know you can picture it.
-
Not at all..
[Read the article: The battle for Nevada]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There are plenty of independents like myself who do not want to see Bill Clinton in the White House again, and will vote any way we can to stop it.
There are even more Republicans.
So gloat all you want, Hillary.
