Iran looks at Pakistan, and says
[Read the article: Bush and Musharraf's grand illusion]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Why does the US treat Pakistan with kid gloves, and give them all this support"?
We all know why. Its because Pakistan has nukes, and Iran does not.
Can someone tell me that Pakistan is a model of democracy in the middle east?
True democracy in the Middle East is the last thing the US wants. There is nothing the US likes more than a good dictator that they can manipulate. Look at how we supported Saddam Hussein in the Iran/Iraq war. Iraq was supported by the US, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, etc, etc.
There is no question but that the US has created instability in the Middle East. Democracy, ha! Thats a good one.

I don't agree with the thesis
[Read the article: The Internet is making us stupid]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]While political discussion may indeed be getting more polarized, (and that is arguable, read about Lincoln's time), it seems absurd to say the internets is causing it.
People may seek out like-minded people, but they don't need the internet to do it. Dittoheads are radio listeners, remember. People may choose to read Time, Newsweek, or other magazines that slant one way or another. And don't forget TV. You can choose to watch CNN only for Glenn Beck if you choose.
These are all different forms of media. The internet does better than all of these in providing facts and analysis from various sources. In fact, if more people would look up facts on their own using the internet and do their own analysis, they'd be better off.
You can read the comments section of any Salon articles and see that most people here are not sheep and have their own opinions.

Wish it were true..
[Read the article: Bush's old world disorder]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In the eyes of the American people (on both sides), it is only G.W. Bush who has been discredited, not the neocon agenda.
These policies are still valid, its just that Bush didn't implement them properly. It is up to a real neocon, like Rudy, to do things right.
Has the neoconservative movement been discredited? I wish.

Just another conspiracy theory..
[Read the article: The evolution of creationism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Evolution is a conspiracy concocted by scientists so they can get research money.
Or so IDers would argue.
In fact, there are problems with the theory of evolution, as there is with most theories. There are things that cannot be explained or predicted with the theory.
This does not mean at all that the theory is wrong or unscientific. I personally don't have a problem with people pointing out limitations in theories like evolution, climatology, moon shots, etc, as long as they are scientific.
People that want to teach ID as an alternate theory? Well, I don't have a big problem with that either. How long does it take? "Well, how did we get everything in the world the way it is? God did it".
Teaching the theory of ID should take about a 10 minute lesson, at most. I believe if the kids are just taught how to reason, they will mostly reach the right conclusion.
The last thing we should do is just tell kids that ID is wrong. It is not wrong. It is just unscientific, and has no use in figuring out the real world. Evolution does a better job of it.
But give me an evolutionary equation that, when you plug in the environment parameters and a suitable timeframe, you get a platypus. Then I'll be a true believer.

Yess!!!
[Read the article: The Tom Friedman of 2002 has not gone anywhere]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Now we know why US foreign policy is in such a mess. Its because we didn't have the right metaphor!
Now here is Tom Friedman, swooping in to save us. Lets open the magic box, shall we?
And here it is, "Good Cop, Bad Cop"! Wow, who would have thought foreign policy could be as simple as a Dragnet episode!
I detect a couple minor flaws, hmm, what could they be? Maybe, that Cheney no longer has any credibility? He's the very definition of a loose cannon. He actually shot someone in the face.
I salute you, Tom Friedman. You have saved america, again.

I have a solution...
[Read the article: America's water war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here].. start drinking your own pee.
I've been doing this, off and on, ever since Halo2 came out. Now, with Halo3, its almost exclusive.
The taste? Not as bad as you might expect!
Sure, its a little gross, but so are Chicken Mcnuggets.
As a side effect, it will reduce bathroom breaks, which will increase productivity, and increase our GNP.
So you could say its a win-win.
And don't tell China. This is how we can beat those ba*st*rds.

Its not Klein's fault..
[Read the article: Time magazine's FISA fiasco shows how Beltway reporters mislead the country]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm sure he didn't independently research the bill. Should he have? He's not a reporter. Is he a journalist? I doubt he's done much actual journalism in some time.
When I read editorials like Klein's, I take it with a few grains of salt. This is some guy's opinion, and it's not even his opinion, he got it from someone else.
I have heard, from all sides of the spectrum, people repeating things that are factually false.
I'm not just talking about people having different opinions. I'm talking about FACTUALLY FALSE. And completely distorted.
Its interesting to me how people can be made to believe absolutely anything. No matter how ridiculous.

Great insights..
[Read the article: The real two-state solution]
[Read more letters about this article: Here].. too bad Bush can't read, this might help him out.
And for those idiots who think its simply "Islam is the enemy", how do you explain the millions of Muslims living in the US? You wouldn't even notice a lot of them unless I pointed them out to you.
Its Islam, plus certain oppressive governments, plus external country interference, plus a few other things.
I have a distaste for all organized religion, but to claim that Middle East issues are singularly the fault of Islam is like claiming that the current issues in the US are the fault of Christians. That is kindergarten analysis.
Now, how do kindergarten arguments usually end?

When I was ten years old..
[Read the article: Covering up the trail of dead Iraqis]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I went to a drive-in movie with my dad. It was a new science fiction movie, "Star Wars".
For months afterward, I fantasized about being Luke Skywalker and fighting the empire.
Thirty years later, I am getting the sneaking suspicion that I am actually working for the other side..
