The border between science and sensationalism
[Read the article: Stormy weather]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Al Gore's movie is partly propaganda. It veers into speculation and sensationalism and imperfect metaphors at times.
Was it worth it to raise awareness of the issue?
I think so. However, in order for people to have a true understanding of the issue, they must have a rather deep grounding in climate science.
Most of us have to rely on science writers to translate for us. It is an incredibly important job. I cannot independently quantify the threat from climate change. I must rely on others.
Some of us are listening.

Leave them alone? But we're just starting to have fun!
[Read the article: Leave the Muslim world alone]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]When I was in high school, there was a guy, a big football player, who always tried to goad a couple of seventh graders to fight. He would push one into another, say that one said something about the other.
When they eventually started throwing punches, he sat back to watch the show, and when one got too close, he pushed him back into the center.
If you want to understand the Middle East situation, you have to understand that first.
There was another kid who was smaller than most others, not a dwarf, but just small. He had a stick in his locker, maybe two feet long. He showed it to me one time, not sure why. He had drilled out the center and filled it with lead.
If you want to understand the Middle East situation, you have to understand these things.
No, the U.S. will never leave the Middle East alone. There will never be peace there (unless muslims wake up and unite). And, for every George Bush in the world, there will always be many, many people who will follow.

Dishonest standards
[Read the article: Michelle Malkin's hate sites]
[Read more letters about this article: Here](1) Standard X is dishonest and corrupt.
(2) Those who advocate and apply Standard X to others ought to have that standard applied to them.
I would say rather that those who apply Standard X should be exposed as dishonest and corrupt.
For example:
"I did not write the comments, they were written by Y. Now, if you attribute them to me, I will punch you in the face. And sue you for slander."
This approach should be used more often.

Where to begin?
[Read the article: Should national security depend on Michael Chertoff's gut?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]people do not -- as scientists have long assumed -- calculate the ball's trajectory, estimating its velocity, angle, spin,
No scientist I know ever assumed this. Ridiculous. The assumption has long been that the brain is using heuristic rules, much like a neural net.
I've shown for the first time that intuitive judgment can actually be better than highly complex strategies. This was a big surprise...
Its a big surprise? To whom? Intuitive judgment IS a highly complex strategy. We use intuitive judgment to play chess. Only recently have computers been able to better us.
I hope some statisticians and neuroscientists will jump in here. We need to quantify intuition, it is not an alternative to rigorous thought, but part of it. I can always articulate the reasons behind my gut feelings. They are mostly the result of past experiences and the patterns I derived from them.
If you cannot do that, then you do not have a "gut" feeling. You are merely gutless.

Sounds like "The Rules", but for guys.
[Read the article: The artful seducer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This guy is a genius for thinking about this stuff. Most guys seriously think that girls just like getting flowers and candy. Then when some other guy gets their girl, they don't understand why.
People need to deal with reality instead of wishing for things the way they would like it. My sisters would have pictures of Michael Jackson and Bon Jovi and just worship these guys. I never for the life of me understood the adoration.
If this guy can do the same thing, but with majic tricks, then more power to him.
Did you ever notice how girls like cats so much, when they are aloof and basically don't give a crap? They don't listen, they don't come on command.
Does it sound like the guys they complain about?

As long as you have nothing to hide, you will be fine.
[Read the article: America under surveillance]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The only people that should worry about this are those seditious people who have ever said anything critical about the government.
These people should be removed from this country because they are dangerous, and not True Americans. They are not citizens of this country, because they do not believe in freedom and America, so the constitution should not protect them.
The best thing would be to ship them to a country that nobody cares about, like Bangladesh, and then do some nuclear testing there. We should do this as soon as possible. This would kill two birds with one stone. The first is, it would get rid of the liberals that are ruining this country. Also, it would let us test our nukes, we need to be sure that they still work.

America Doesn't Torture
[Read the article: The brutal, uncivilized Libyans]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The president and others have said many times that the U.S. does not use torture. But apparently the anti-american liberals have their ears too stuffed with marijuana to hear.
Its amazing that people like Glenn keep twisting their brains in a knot talking about the constitution. When we are AT WAR. With a DEADLY and FANATICAL enemy.
Almost every day there are news reports of airport security being breached, suspicious packages and the like. But you people would rather talk about a bunch of crap.
Thanks for making america a haven for terrorists, you traitors.

Excellent Interview..
[Read the article: The religious state of Islamic science]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In my opinion, the Islamic world needs to secularize. Don't tangle up science and religion! Don't tangle up government and religion!
We need to learn that lesson as well in the US. Our forefathers learned it. Today we are forgetting that lesson.

The end IS coming
[Read the article: The Islamists are coming]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]People like glenn and these other liberal wingnuts are vastly underestimating the battle we are in.
People, we have spent almost half a trillion dollars and spent many lives fighting against fundamentalist islam. And we have barely made a dent. That should tell you what we are up against.
God has chosen this moment in time as a pivotal battle against good and evil. I personally feel no greater goal than to fight and die for this great cause. All REAL americans should feel the same.
